QuoteReplyTopic: HELP - brush or not to brush Posted: January 12 2000 at 3:50am
When I was a little girl, my mother used to put cornstartch in my hair and comb it out when my hair got oily and she didn't feel like washing it. I still do it on occassion, especially after a strenous day at the gym.She refuses to admit it, but I think she got the idea from a vet who recommended that procedure for our cat.

Hi D,I should have clarified when writing to Randy-even though I don't brush regularly-well, rarely-I do have to finger-pick it and that does make it look as though it's been brushed. I have straight thick hair, I can get away with not doing anything to it in the morning, but I prefer styling it that way. As far as baby brushes-I'm not sure if it would be a good brush for your hair type or not..I just figured it had the gentlest bristles and i even had one that was a boar bristle, gentled down for a baby's hairbrush (in fact if anyone knows where I could by one, either on-line or store-wise, please let me know; I don't have this brush anymore). Hope this helps.

I also have to comb and brush mine to distribute conditioner and to rid my hair of tangles. My hair gets pulled out a little, too, mostly tangles. I wish I could just jump out of the shower and never have to go through all the combing, but it's worth it to see my hair shiny and long. Just do whatever works for you. It's the best to be happy with yourself.
>I'm curious, how can you not brush your hair everyday>? Don't you look like a wild woman? I have to brush my hair everyday just to tame it down. My cousin has long brown hair that just hangs so pretty and I ask her how she gets her hair so great looking and she just makes this face and says that she didn't even brush it. She just gets out of bed looking like that. It must be nice. I have naturally curly/kinky hair that looks like a bush and I have to brush it like crazy. Is a baby brush good for your hair? I think I'd like to try one if I could get my hair thru it.
I have elbow length hair in good condiiton. I never brush it on day I wash it, which is about once a week. On the third day after washing I will brush my hair about 30 strokes. My hair is fairly thick. Eveb gentle brushing usually pulls some hair out because they tend to get stuck in the brush. Thus I avoid it. However, since I wash my hair so seldom, I have found that brushing once a week helpd to distribute the natuaral oils, making it look less oily.
Hello Randy. This seems to vary from person to person. Generally it is a good idea to be careful when brushing and to not brush excessively. Although, I've heard that people with curly hair should perhaps not use brushes at all.The purpose of brushing is to smooth the hair during styling and to help distribute the natural oils along the length of the hair. A comb with widely spaced teeth, a pick, or your fingers should be used for actually removing the tangles.A paddle is a type of hairbrush. The name comes from the fact that the brush has a wide rounded shape, like a paddle.Hope this helps some,Teresa

Randy,A lot of people may not agree with this, but I do have very long(to the top of my hips) hair and I think it worked for me, NOT brushing, and if I did, it was with a baby's brush. It seems to have played a factor in having it grow to great lengths-for me, anyways, so maybe it is healthier not to.Just my opinion:)
