Hi Clare, nice to hear from you and thank you for the kind words! My best advice is to stop and take stock of how you yourself feel about your hair, much the same way that stock brokers ask their clients to assess their risk tolerance. Some women simply cannot tolerate their hair when its not in a straight blunt cut. This is absolutely their personal choice and as such totally acceptable. But more often than not these women are blessed with an incredible head of hair, very thick and lush. Just as most of us don't get a natural pair of 38 D's, most of us also don't enjoy this kind of luxurious hair. For myself, mainly, I just don't worry about it. Some hairs will split. They're going to fall out anyway and be replaced soon enough so why sweat it? If an individual hair only lasts about 6 years, as the experts say, then at any given moment there are thousands of hairs that are all sorts of various lengths. As an example, my hair is to my knees and when I put it in a braid, by the end of the day there are little wild hairs that have come loose from the pack. Are these hairs that are currently growing to catch up with the rest of my length, or splits that must be constantly monitored and meticulously trimmed? I don't care, I just leave them all alone and make sure to condition, condition, condition so that no matter what it looks just fine. I've always said that women are too critical of themselves and each other. I've noticed with my kids too that a couple have hair so thick that it will hold a blunt cut forever with no strays while my middle child has hair that I could trim every single day and it would still find a way to be whispy at the very ends. This is the nature of fine hair and I've just learned to accept it for what it is. No magic bullet I'm afraid, but I can tell you that the longer it gets, the less those ends seem to matter anyway.I am not advocating this for everyone. You have to decide what works for you and your tolerance level for those stray wild hairs!Good luck in your quest for long hair! Just keep the faith and be patient, its an inevitable result of just leaving your hair to grow!Best wishes to all,Dawn> Hi Dawn or anyone else who has ideas on this,> How can I prevent split ends so I don't have to trim> so often? Hi, Clare! I haven't trimmed in a while and can really see the split ends. I'm going to have to do some major trimming work this weekend. I'd love to know Dawn's secrets too!Related Link:Bowers-Bahney Communications
