Hi Jade!Well, my idea didn't help you much at all huh? Sorry. All I can say is its just gravity that holds the hair up there for me but I do use a big fluffy pillow and the hair goes up and over and then down onto the other pillow so its kind of stuck in a hollow there in the headboard. i would recommend phyto 7, because its extremely softening and moisturizing. more importantly, you can use it on wet or dry hair, so it doesnt matter if you wash your hair before you go to bed or when you wake up. either way, you have to be careful to use just a dab, because it spreads really easily and too much makes hair greasy. you can order it by calling 1-800-55-phyto. it untangles my mess of curls, and thats saying something. good luck

Hi, Dawn!I would really appreciate your advice. I tried your method and caused a real mess. The problem is I don't have bookcases in the headboard. Let me describe what happened and maybe you can help.My hair is heading toward the derriere and I am finding that I may have to give up my life-long satin nightcap. The cap is getting very full no matter how I wind my hair. I have thought that my only other alternative is to start making giant satin caps:)Anyway, I did as you said, putting my hair way above my head. It was tangle-free, with the jojoba on the ends:) Unlike you, I don't move all that much during the night. If I do move, it will be relatively minor. I awoke the next morning and the hair was in my face. The bed looked like I had barely moved because I could just pull up the covers, fluff the pillows and the bed was made.I really don't want to braid my hair at night and I'm wondering if a bun or something might do any better. What do you think? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. All the Best,Jade21> Well, first of all you describe your hair as being> very dry and I'm sure that must contribute to the> tangles so I'd do a lot of good oil treatments and> lots of extra conditioning to eliminate that excessive> dryness. Hi Serena,Well, first of all you describe your hair as being very dry and I'm sure that must contribute to the tangles so I'd do a lot of good oil treatments and lots of extra conditioning to eliminate that excessive dryness. Soft supple strands whose cuticle is laying nice and tight are less likely to tangle in the first place. Now, the effectiveness of my technique depends a bit on what you mean by long hair, since for some people long is anything below the shoulders, and I don't know how well the hair would stay put with shorter hair, but here's what I do with my hair at night.I always make sure that my hair is well brushed and tangle free before I go to bed, sometimes I add some jojoba oil, shea or cocoa butter to the ends too, just enough that will soak in good, not enough that it even gets on the pillow or anything. Then, when I get into bed, I grab my hair about at elbow length and toss it up over my pillow into the bookcase headboard of my bed. I have another pillow I stuff in there so actually my hair rests on its own pillow, above the pillow I sleep on. I just let it lay there however it falls. It stays put just fine all night, despite the fact that I am not exactly a delicate sleeper and rarely end up anywhere near the same place in the bed I fell asleep at. Up behind you like that the hair kind of just floats and spins around when you do, but doesn't get tangled like when its all down around you in the bed. I find sleeping on your side is also easier on the hair than sleeping on your back since on your back head movements tend to make the hair want to tangle.Sometimes I just leave my braid from the day in and brush my hair out in the morning and though I guess its an aquired taste, those "braid waves" can be very attractive too. Even braided though I still put it up above me while sleeping so it doesn't get all wrapped around me or my husband rolls on it!Hope that helps. With long hair the best defense against tangles is to find ways to keep them from happening in the first place. My sons have very long hair as well and they have a hard time with the up above the head thing while sleeping, plus they love to sleep on their backs, making the tangles in back of their head absolutely brutal sometimes, so I sympathize with your dilemma. Getting the hair up and out away from the body has worked best for me.Good luck!Best wishes to all!Dawn> I have long, dry hair and the only thing that keeps it> from getting tangled at night is to braid it. I've read that the satin nigh caps are very helpful. Look it up at the search engine for this thread-it wasn't that long ago. Hope this helps.Holly

I have long, dry hair and the only thing that keeps it from getting tangled at night is to braid it. But in the morning when I take the braids out, it has this awful crinkly pattern. I was wondering if any of you have come up with a better method.
