You say you can't keep the style more than a few days. I have to rebraid daily, but I use a single braid. Is there something you know that I need to? I rebraid in the morning and sleep on the single and rebraid again in the morning if I'm going outside the house. It does keep hair loss down due to low tangling and almost no combing.

I braid my long dry hair. I tend to braid fairly loosely, so I can't keep the style more than a few days before it has to be redone. For me it has been very helpful since the dryness tends to attract tangles and detangling led me to more hair damage.

Braiding, if done carefully will not necessarily harm your hair. However, it is important that the braids not be put in too tightly or else it can stress the hair roots and scalp and there is actually a condition where spot hair loss occurs due to excessive tight braiding or ponytails. This is most often obvious along the hairline where the braids would be applied the tightest. If you hair is very dry I would recommend that you do some hot oil treatments to restore oils to the hair cuticle. You may even want to apply some hair oil like Aveda's Beautifying oil and then have the hair braided...not too tightly.I would not recommend leaving the braids in the hair for long periods of time since this tends to block scalp circulation. Maybe only a few days at a time would be my suggestion. If the ends are excessively dry and split, it is best to have them trimmed. It is better for your hair to remove split ends.Best wishes,Karen> Hi I have pretty long straight hair but it is very dry> and get tangled easily. Hi I have pretty long straight hair but it is very dry and get tangled easily. I was thinking of getting braided in box braids and keeping this style for a long time hoping that my hair will revitalize and get longer. I plan on re-braiding it every two weeks. But I'm not sure if this will help or harm my hair. Please help!
