Trouble is I'm not willing to> part with any of my waist length hair.Your hair doesn't have to be up all the time. You can use a thin headband or barrettes or pins to holdyour crown and side hair off your face, while letting ithang down in the back. This look may not work if you'reoutdoors and it's hot or windy, but in calm weather orindoors it looks plenty businesslike. You can also roll the sides and fasten it in a low ponytail. It's the look that the Topsy Tail tries (and fails) to give.On days when you wear buns or other complete updos, remember that Portia de Rossi doesn't have much lift onthe top and sides with those styles, and she doesn't suffer.---C.C.

> wow. i can relate to not wanting to cut your long hair! i suggest a couple of things:1) french braids as well as buns can be made to look much less severe if you simply use a lighter touch when oulling your hair back, or incorporating it into a braid. try doing a tyical french braid, for example, but rather than oulling the hair tautly into place, make the weave much losser. to keep it in place, however, use a good coat of a flexible hair spray, like pantene.2)try up dos that do not focus on pulling the hair away from the side of your head, rather pulling the long hair up from the back. For example, make a "bun" in which you simply roll the hair (keep it loose on the sides)into a ball into it hits the nape of your neck. secure it with a comb. the look should be soft on the side, yet your hair will be up, of your back.hope this helps.

I just got a new job in politics which requires I have a very professional look when interviewed, photographed, etc... Trouble is I'm not willing to part with any of my waist length hair. I need to learn how to put it up somehow that isn't too young. I can do a french twist which looks great from the back and side but much too harsh straight on and unflattering in pictures and video. The same with buns, french braids etc... as they look too severe on the top and sides. Specifically does anyone have updo ideas for long hair (no cutting or perms)that gives some lift on the top and sides. My hair is very straight and so long that curlers really do little and last a very short time. I don't want to continually tease my hair (though I'm willing to for special occassions (any ideas?) for lift as it will cause too much damage. I've bought Patrick Camerons book and most styles I like I couldn't do myself (I need something I can do daily) and involve too much teasing. I would entertain having some done for special occassions. Please help me out as I adore my long hair and don't wish to choose hair or career.
