I think the cloth covered wires you refer to might be the "Sophisto-twist". I have seen them recently at Claire's and at Wal-Mart. I have had mine for quite a while but I think they are still available. If I get to Wallyworld today I will check and see if they are still there and let you know. I think they are a nice accessory too. I sometimes but my hair up in a rolled bun while still slightly damp and then take it out in a few hours and I have nice waves that aren't too curly.

I have long (at least midway down my back) very naturally curly hair that will dry rather straight if it is pulled tight. I was wondering how I could get it into a Gibson Girl twist. I used to be able to do it with some cloth covered wires that I had, but they've long since disappeared. I would like to know how I can get it all curled under and secured and what clips, combs, sticks, etc. I might need to do so.Thanks!
