I work full time as a telecommuter from home but I have been with my company for almost 20 years. I know that a lot of companies with employees who sit in front of a computer all day often allow their full time employees to telecommute either full time as I do or for two to three days a week (with the other days in the office). This type of work is monitored very carefully though and there are strict policies and procedures in place to assure that homebased employees (or remotes as we are called) are actually working their required 8 hours. Believe me, they would know it if I were not working and they can even run printouts of everywhere I go on the internet for my boss. It isn't as great as it sounds. I have been doing this for five years and I really dislike it a lot. I miss the contact with the other people in the office (who are like my family), going to lunch, dressing up, etc. This type of work can be very isolating and if you are a social person stay in the office.
I know that you are maybe not trying to have a career or anything but I think it is a lot harder than people make it sound to make money doing stuff part time on the internet. If you are working for a company now and use a computer you could maybe approach them about doing it from home part time. I think this may be the wave of the future but it isn't easy.

thanks uzma i was thinking something a little more simple though. i like the product review one you suggested but i wouldn't know how to go about that . if possible on the internet. any other suggestions?
There are some dodgy companies out there out to make a buck or ten from your hard work. My advice: Don't rely on them - find your own opportunities.
You can:
* write/edit articles from home if you have a specialist subject that has a market, perhaps review products?
* design & create web-sites if you know (or can get trained in) java/html/etc and invest in the software
* make things..lots of possibilities depending on skills - crafts, pottery, art, needlework, soft furnishings that you can sell to stores.
* sell advertising (and other stuff) over the phone
* tutor children after school (again depending on your specialism - music, languages, etc)
* start your own small business. I concoct my own aromatherapy perfumes, make candles, make jewellery, etc. I bet you have something you like to do and can turn it into a home business.
The possibilities are only limited by your preference, situation (skills, space, time, etc) and imagination!!
Hope that helps, and best of luck.
