It depends on how much lighter you want to go. Usually, it's not advised to color (or highlight) more than one or two shades lighter than your natural hair color. It's not that it's a huge restriction, but anything lighter could look odd in comparison to the skincolor.
I would go to the salon for a consultation. It could be possible that you could use a lighter semi-permanent instead of the exact match, and then it would be only on selected portions of grey.
Make sure to use shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair. And a conditioning treatment will help keep your hair shiny and healthy.

My natural haircolor is very dark brunette. I started going to a salon for semi permanent color to take out some grey. The color is an exact match to my natural color.
Sometimes I have just the top done, sometimes the whole head. There is virtually no line at the roots.
However, I think my hair is getting too dark and it has lost it's natural shine. I haven't done any shine or gloss at the salon.
I am thinking maybe I'd like to give it a little change, something to perk it up. Maybe some fun highlights. I don't want that brassy red color though. I have seen on some actresses (I think it was Lara Flynn Boyle) sort of a gold highlight against her dark hair. It was pretty.
Does anyone have an opinion on dark hair with lighter highlights? Thank you.
