Thanks again to Lilibeach for all of her sage Redken advice, and helping me in my quest to return to my natural medium very warm brown from this very dark brown I've been wearing for several years.
It's so nice when a home coloring goes this well! I've been asking questions and researching for months, and finally decided to mix 3/4 4NN with a small amount of 4Gr of Redken Fusion (my colorist friend gets this superior product for me). I was very nervous because this was the first time I'd be using 20% peroxide, i.e., permanent haircolor, in a long long time, AND, becuase this was the first time I was introducing red tones back into my hair (other than a little natural instincts). I was afraid it was going to be too red, or that this roots-only job would be in very striking contrast to the rest of my hair (very dark ash brown).
I was HAPPILY surprised by the following:
1)though it started looking too red when it first started drying, it actually doesn't look very red at all--it has a slight reddish undertone, just like my natural color!
2)I was convinced I was a natural level 3, so the level 4 brown made me a bit nervous, I was afraid it was going to be a lighter brown than I ever wore before and that it would be in stark contrast to the dark hair that I didn't color. It wasn't! It's actually a little darker than I wanted--which is ok! A more conservative result is fine.
3) That NN line really does cover ALL the grey! NEVER have I seen grey coverage like this!
4) During the coloring, the sides of my face were soaked in hair color and I was sure I was going to have stains for a week. But I had been pretty generous with the Vaseline coating, and it ALL CAME OFF. Not one stain to be found on my face or neck!!!! I was amazed.
Afterwards, I shampood out with Redken Color Extend, and conditioned with a generous portion of All-Soft. My hair never felt softer or shinier. I am SO HAPPY!
I would recommend Redken Color Fusion to anyone who uses permanent hair color. I know it's nearly impossible to get some for home coloring, but if I couldn't get it, I would RUN to the nearest salon that carries it and have my color done there. This color is GORGEOUS!!!!! And if you have resistant grey, the NN series is the answer to your prayers.
Now all I have to do is wait out the two years it's going to take for this darkest hair to grow and be trimmed out. I hate being patient!!!!!!!
Thanks for listening to all of my color trials and tribulations.
