40 bleach probly means 4o developer but if your hair was colored prior to the highlighting and they used color instead of bleach then it will not lighten, because you can not lift color with color, you would have to use bleach and then you would probly have to tone because your hair closest to the scalp would brobly be a lil brassie, dont attempt this at home please, it makes it harder on the proffesional to correct and will be costly dear

my friend used the foil on me and I had great results. She used a 40 bleach, but when I tried I couldn't get it to lighten. Is 40 bleach and 40 developer the same if so what did I do wrong.

also, this was way before my latest mishap

Learning to Foil hair takes alot of practice and being taught by qualifyed educators. I've known other stylist take months to perfect this work.

Take my word for it, leave it to the pros. We make it look easy to do but trust me there is alot of practice behind those skilled hand.
I am a professional Hairstylist/Haircolorist with 19 years experience. I have traveled all over the country for my advanced education. I am also a salon owner.:)........and I LOVE Redken!!!

Has anyone done the hair color procedure at home where you brush on color on sections of hair and fold them into pieces of foil?
I've heard that it's only a salon procedure, and if it is, can it be done at home with a little experience and caution?

I know that when people do at-home highlighting/lowlighting, many just brush the stuff on without foil, but is there any difference in using the foil instead of none at all?

Aside from how it works, would demi-permanent/semi-permanent hair color work effectively with this technique?

I am somewhat new to this, as the only at-home coloring that I've done is all over permanent color. Thanks for any help!!
