Wow. What a tale. I hope you do not return to that colorist. Such a shame; I really hope you can make peace with your hair!
All I can tell you based on personal experience and readings is that of all artificial colors, red fades the fastest. I doubt the red cast would become more prominent with time. I would suggest an ash-hued color-enhancing shampoo and conditioner STAT if you aren't going to redye, but this is really a question best suited for Sophie, Lilibeach and other such pros. Good luck my dear!

Hi. Long story, so grab a cup of coffee and sit back.
I have shoulder length medium-blonde to light brown hair that I had highlighted about 2 months ago. It always has its own highlights because the sun lightens it some. My roots were grown out about an inch or so and I went to the salon. I asked about all-over color, something a nice blonde, but not platinum. I showed the stylist a lock of hair that I was shooting for (on my own head) and she said, 'Oh yeah, we can do that.' So we proceeded. She brushed on the blue stuff and when I returned to her chair, I was aghast. My roots were Christina Aguilera platinum and from about 1" out, I was the color of a shiny brass bell. I told her that I didn't want red in any way, shape or form, so she took me back to the chair and put blue back in my hair. It didn't work. Another stylist suggested BV something or other. So she went to the back room, came out with a bottle and squirted it on my head. Well....... I knew something was wrong when 4 stylists were "helping" her. I sat up and they announced that they were having a slight problem with the blue. Uh yeah, no kidding. My hair was the color of the sky. ALL over. So they tried clarifying shampoo. Nothing. Still powder blue. At this point, I said let's give up on the blonde and just make me a normal color. Just pick one, a nice brown will do. So they went back and got another bottle. Now I sat up and was a lovely shade of orange with brass spots and blue blotches. The biggest blue blotch was at the nape of my neck and when my orange hair was down, you couldn't see it. (nevermind that most times, I wear my hair in a ponytail eek) They tried to reach a hotline (which was closed!) My back and neck hurt real bad from the chair by now, so I said, "how about let's just dry me and I'll go home. Somebody call the hotline and we'll address this Monday." So Monday comes and they say they know how to fix it. I went back in and told them that I'd really like to avoid anything red; just make me my natural color and I'll forget the original plan. Well..... the process involved completely lifting the color. They shampooed something in that totally stripped my hair of everything except the brass bell color. Then they brushed on the brown. What I'm left with is hideous. I am a bronzish red with orange red highlights that would really probably look kinda nice on somebody else. However, my skin color is NOT suited for red hair and I feel hideous. I have cried for three solid days.
In spite of everything that has happened to my hair and scalp, my hair doesn't feel that worse for the wear. I haven't even had to get the ends cut. It feels dry when it's being washed, but I've been conditioning the heck out of it and when it's dry, it's not too terrible.
What I want to know, after this horribly long story, is.... 1. Do you think the reds will fade or become more prominent with time? and 2. What would be your plan of recovery? I don't want to lose my length and am willing to wear this crap if it means recovery in steps.
