Need Hair Color Help

Everytime I dye my hair ANY color it always has this reddish tint to it. So, I decided to just dye it red. My hair naturally is dark/med brown. Anyways, I bought Clairol Balsam Color "Medium reddish Brown," and it turned it burgundy, some have even said it is an off pink color. I HATE it! I am embarrassed to leave the house. I dyed it yesterday and last night I decided to try dying it again another color to see if it would take this awful burgundy look out of my hair.

I dyed it a light auburn, and it didn't bring the color out any at all. I want light brown back..grrrr
I suppose I will have to go jet black to get this color out, and black don't look good on me either. I thought about stripping the dye off of it with this stuff I got at the store last night, but I am afraid it will damage my hair too much.

Any ideas on what I can do?
