Not only that, but if you had an allergic reaction to hair dye in the past, you should always mix a couple of drops of it together and put in on your skin inside your elbow to make sure you aren't going to be allergic to it. (There should be instructions in the box how to do the allergy test).

eKatherine is right. Definitely do a test strand before you put something on all of your hair. Better to live without highlights than have to cut off all your hair because of breakage near the roots.
To see if your hair is likely to break, wait three days after you've applied the product to the test strand. Test it for damage. (Severely damaged hair can take up to 3 days to break.) If it breaks and/or feels stretchy or mushy when wet, don't go ahead with the highlights. Those are sure signs that your hair can't take any more damage.
My user name is WAY too long. Just call me Juliana. :-)

It's hard to predict what that kit is going to do to your hair, as you've got color on it already. If you decide to go through with it make sure you do a strand test first.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?
Herbal Essences Medium Brown. Unfortunately, my hair didn't like the brand (I've never had troubles with Feria or Loriel), so my scalp was itchy. It first came out nearly black, but it's faded well.

I am going through the same thing that you went through. I am trying to dye my hair darker so that when it grows thriough it is barely noticible. I too have naturally brown hair but everytime i try to do it dark the color fades. What brand of hair dye did you use to dye yours back to your natural color? Thanks...
I've been dying my hair (mostly reds) since I was 14 (now 19). Last June I went dark brown so when the color faded, it'd blend with my natural roots (dark blonde/light brown) because I decided to quit and let my hair grow out and finally chop off all the dyed stuff.
Well, that was the first time I experienced any sort of bad reaction to dye (Herbal Essences, never used that again). My scalp got itchy and sensitive (after the process) and I lost hair had faster rate than normal. However, the whole fading into my roots theory turned out correct, and it's well blended with a couple inches of roots barely noticeable now.
However, I am badly addicted to hair dye, and yesterday I bought a highlighting kit (the cap and stuff) and some ColorSilk light auburn. But last night I started having second thoughts. I really shouldn't damage my hair anymore, but I miss my reds and brown's just so blah. Should I just return the box to the store and wait until I've chopped off all the old stuff?
