And red fades the fastest of any color...
This is because I can spell konfusion with a K
It's hard to like it
It's to dying in anothers arms
And why i had to try it...
- Something Corporate "Konstantine"

It might be the colorant you are using. Some brands fade a lot faster than others.

You may also want to try a different shampoo brand designed for colored hair. The one you are using might be too harsh on your hair. Also, red pigment breaks down quicker in hot water, so cool it down if you're a big hot bath taker. ;)

Oh and though it's not really swimming season, chlorine can strip haircolor. I once dyed my hair burgundy, swam the next day, and my hair lost all the purple pigment in it. :(

Are you using demi, semi, or permanent color? Demi and semi permament will always lighten up and fade. Permament may as well but not as much. It may be that you are getting the wrong base color in the brown. If you want to get a brown with NO gold or red in it, you need to get an ash brown with a green or blue base. Also, get it a few shades darker than the color you want so that when it does fade, it will fade to the shade you want. As long as you get a green or blue base colored brown, it should counteract any gold or red shades.

i like med. colored hair, not dark but not light. a while ago i had my hair colored at the salon and it was the first time in a while i went lighter. it was a light aburny type color with lots of red. well, after i wahed it you could start to see some gold from the color before that.

so every since then ive had it dyed a med-dark brown in hopes that the color i had before will go away, and ill have just a brown with no red or gold. but everytime i get my hair dyed it fades a little after every wash, so i always end up with those 2 colors again, along with the new color still slightly there.

geesh i hope im making sense. anyway im hoping to get my hair to look like the pictures in my post down on the page...# 2 and 3. but im afraid that the gold and red colors will come out again. ive already tried dying it a reeeeally dark brown, but that lightened up to a light-med brown with those same darn colors.

i hope soemone can give me advice on what to do. and all the dyings were done at a salon
