I love the small bond with the shrinkie...that is awesome. I will definitely switch to shrinkies even if it dont work out with synthetic. But for now on the human hair I will do with shrinkies for sure...I think I just need a double sided heating wand or just need to get the hang of it??? The shrinkie bond is WAY smaller than the nail hair bond that I currently have. I am fairly satisfied with the human hair I use...for the price I pay its pretty decent its just a pain because I order from Korea...I have to order big amounts to justify the shipping charge and it takes a little while to transfer the money etc.....but I would love to switch to synthetic as soon as I know enough about it.
If you meant am I happy with the way the prostyles looks Id say yes....its a bit shiney when new but the shinieness washes off, but I only have funky colors so of course they look fake! I dont have a clue how the natural colors compare to human hair color.

That's encouraging. Thanks again, Sherrie. Did you like the way it looked?

I think that they will do fine. I melted 1 out of 10. But that was only after I turned up the temp....And I was holding the wand on the shrinkie longer than I think I should have to because of only one side heating.

Thanks, Sherrie. It does sound like you'll need a different wand for Shrinks, but I imagine AMM could advise you better on this.

I was hoping the pretipping would be enough to protect the synth from melting, and if I'm understanding your post correctly, it basically is. Do you think it would be possible to do a whole head of Shrinks without melting a lot of the actual synthetic strands in the process? (This may be impossible to answer, I realize.)

Thanks again, Sherrie!

well I dont have answers for you ladies on the shrinkie/prostyles hair. I tried it tonight with mixed results. I think my fusion wand may be the problem but Im not sure. It is a single sided wand (only heats on one side) which is fine for the nailtip hair I use but I dont think it heats all the way through the shrinkie well enough. When the iron was good and hot(180 degrees) it heated through pretty well, but after doing a few I think the one side that isnt heated just cools off way too much. But what I did find was that on the pretipped prostyles ( I used LG to pretip) the hair did not melt. But if I put the tip of my wand on the loose synthetic it did melt but not instantly, after a few seconds. Also I turned my wand temp up to 200 and I did melt one of the pretips off......so Im not sure about the synthetic and shrinkies. I m not sure if I need a different fusion wand or if shrinkies like other methods take a little practice to get the hang of it??

Sorry I couldnt be more helpful on this issue! I wish I had used the shrinkies before now so I would be more knowledgeable. Ive had the shrinkies for 4 months and never tried one til today!

Oh, and another thing. There are no even remotely negative reviews about any of the synth hair sellers in the reviews section (Prostyles, PlastikHaar, Dome). I painstakingly went through all the pages just in case, looking for any possible caveats, and I haven't found any, which is encouraging.

I know, it's hilarious! All those prices seem dreamy to me....

What's unfortunate about Quinnster's site (excellent as it is) is that you can't access posts before a certain point at all and the search function does not work well (at least not for me). I searched a million times for Dome, ProStyles, monofilament, etc., and I didn't find much. But when I actually went through each one, there was more info. than I'd thought there was. I'll bet there was tons of information posted before that time, bur again, it doesn't seem to be accessible.

Thanks sherrie for testing this out. I have an email out to Savagelily (they're also Afrocare, I believe) asking a few questions. I also have an email out to Sara and I will definitely try some plastikhaar once I nail down the curl size.

Jenny, those links are amazing. I've been going through the archives over there, too. I notice some recent questions aren't being answered and I can imagine --for them, anyway-- they may feel like they're repeating themselves.

After buying human hair for so long, I do have to chuckle when I read how "expensive" it is at $30-40 a bag.

Neither can I, and frankly, I feel like a lot of people are unsatisfied with human hair, regardless of the color, so who knows?

I'm psyched that you'll be testing the ProStyles with the Shrinks; I can't wait to hear how it turns out. Your daughter must have the coolest hair in school!

I hear you jenny...Ive even thought about dying my hair so I could have more options of extensions choices since lighter colors seem so limited. But I just cant part with my blonde hair!

Yippie! This is good news, indeed. You're thinking of switching to synth, right? And your hair's like 613 blonde? Mine's 613 (even a little lighter now) and it's really hard to find human hair that matches my color, is long enough, and doesn't take forever to style....

well I have never had it in my own hair and Ive only used it for streaks, so I dont know what a full head of prostyles would be like. If I had a more natural color Id put some in my hair to try it! I have red, blue, green, purple, orange....I think that would look pretty silly on me! For what Ive used it for is beautiful. It seems to wave very nice in with my daughters hair. She has a natural wave and the streaks seem to wave right along with the hair that its connected to, so it looks very good. It also straightens well when she blowdries her hair. Ive noticed if she curls her hair it stays curly longer than her natural hair. She uses a curling iron on it, it doesnt look like it damages it but with just streaks damage wouldnt be as obvious as a full head. Ive only used it with micro rings but it can take heat so I think it would work fine with shrinkies.

Duh....I have the prostyles hair and I have shrinkies, I will test them out later today on Miss Holly( my daughter) and tell you how it goes....sometimes she likes being my guinea pig some times she dont....LOL

Oh, OK. I thought it looked different, but maybe it's more similar than I thought....

Sherrie, how do you like the ProStyles?

that is how the prostyles hair looks. I have 5 of the funky colors of prostyles hair and it looks just like that when you take it out of its package. other than its kinda wrapped up in a long twist. Mine has been hanging and the twist unwinds and looks just about like the picture on savage lilly except its a bit wavier. Ive used the prostyles for streaks in my daughters hair. It looks like they use the same photo for monobraid and profiber

Hey, Amm, I don't think that's ProStyles/ProHair, if that's what you're thinking.... Doesn't look like the photos I've seen of it, anyway. Maybe you could link to it on Quinnster's and someone there could advise? The Synergy and Hairsisters links look promising.

By the way, I did an exhaustive search of the Quinnster's Loose section last night, and came across many monofiber threads (don't know how I missed these the first time). Forgive me if you guys have seen these before; if not, they should be helpful (links below).

The more I read about this, I'm not sure that anyone has actually used monofiber with Shrinkies; they seem to think it would work, but this may be pioneer territory (everyone seems to use ir for heat-sealed, pinchbraids, or microrings). I would doubt the iron would melt a pretipped strand in 5 seconds, but that hair is designed to melt, so I guess we'll have to see.... Doc Locks may know about this.

omg yes it is....I had completely forgotten about savagelilly. I remember now that I had saw the profiber on their website way back before I had any interest in synthetic! If its profiber it has to be the good stuff. Ill bet someone over at quinnsters could tell us what it is for sure.

Profibre? Is this what I think it is? Could it be true?

I'll stay calm until you guys advise me.

Nope I havnt ordered it yet but Im going to. At that price its worth experimenting with. The shipping is a little pricey, $6.99, but still well within the range Im looking to spend. Im definetly going to go with shrinkies, Im checking out my local hardware store tomorrow for the black and Ill experiment with those and with some spare hair I already have.

Hmm. Emma, you may have found something there. That's not clown hair, is it? Did you order it?

Here's another one to ponder. Synergy Fiber:

A great thread to read about the differences in synth hair:
