For the record, I love clip-ons; I think they can look gorgeous and quite realistic if the color match is right. Clip-ONs are just about as easy as it gets (just put your hair in a ponytail, clip the piece over it, and go), and they're available in human and synthetic. I would stick with those that are either jaw clips (the most secure) or drawstrings; banana clips have not worked well for me (they're too prone to slipping).
Anytime you see a celebrity at an awards show with some beautiful, long, thick, perfect-looking ponytail, dollars for doughnuts, they're clip-ons. Nicole Kidman, J.Lo, Angelina Jolie all come to mind. Gwen Stefani wore them for her whole last tour with No Doubt, and Madonna has worn them a lot, particularly back in the Blonde Ambition days.
I will say that you wouldn't want to wear the big, heavy long ones every day; they're really too heavy for daily wear. But they're great for going out at night, special occasions, etc., and you can get them pretty cheap. The lighter, shorter ones may be able to be worn daily, although it's never a good idea to always have a ponytail in the same spot of your head.
Kristin, what exactly is a clip in? When I hear clip in, I think of the pony-tail on a wide tooth clippidy thing that just goes over your ponytail... thanks
How do I care for my new clip ins now? Do I use the regular shampoo (bumble and bumble) I always have been using? Should I use a spray on light conditioner. Deep condition the ends? Other types of leave in care products? Blow dry? Air dry? Comb twice, three times a day?
