Oh, Emma, by heat-sealed I mean the Dome/Prostyles method- not shrinkies. I haven't tried shrinks, so I don't know if the size/amount/etc is the same. That method (heat-sealed) is done by braiding the synth and human together, then wrapping a bit of the synth around the braid and heating the wrap to seal it.
Those pics are perfect. My husband does my extensions for me and he's had a hard time trying to get enough hair in the ring. He said he never knows if its too little or too much. These pics will be very helpful.

Those are heat-sealed extensions (by Bridget/Boogiemama), but this applies to any sort of extension. If you were doing extensions for length, you usually need to do a 3/4 or full head to get enough volume on the lgnth. But for just volume, you can skip every-other horizontal row- so, like in the first photo above, you'd do one row near the nape, then go up a half inch and skip that hair, then do another row above that, then skip another half inch, etc. That way you have less volume than a whole head, but it's evenly distributed all over the scalp.
If I wanted to ad extensions for fullness would I just place the extensions sporadically throughout the hair? Maybe one extension ever inch or so instead of one right after the other? I'm trying to picture doing this but I would think it would look choppy? I'm not sure.
