Hey Kalika,
I'm hearing you about the washing thing. I think that was my first mistake. If I could get the sink-style "scalp wash" thing down (Leia's suggestion), I think that would really help. The baby powder sounds promising too. Is it worth buying dry shampoo, or does the baby powder basically do the same thing?
I was also thinking of cutting the hair a bit shorter. I don't think I've quite gotten the hang of the blow-drying yet, but I'm going to try it again today and possibly trim it too, and we'll see how that works.
I'm just wondering, though, if you think it would've been possible to retain the wavy look of the hair when it was first applied at that length. My thinking is that it would be very hard to do, but perhaps I'm missing something....
Also, I didn't see you mention braid or shine sprays; perhaps the fabric softener and Febreeze are enough then?
I have to say, my hair doesn't look too bad. I think it's more a matter of it not looking as good as it did and feeling a bit rough. In most ways, it still looks better than most of the human I've used anyway.
Metal girl - Im a dancer, so I get just as sweaty as you ;) The less you wash the less your scalp produces oils, so the first month might suck, but after that its a breeze. I used to have to wash my hair EVERY day, now even when I dont have extensions in I wash no more then twice a week. If your scalp gets oily, a bit of baby powder will soak it right up,k just put it on your hands and dab on your scalp. and if thats not enough, a cotten ball soaked with astringant dabbed on your scalp will definatly dry it right out. My scalp is so "trained" now, that I have to do neither anymore. as far as fabreeze, you spray right on the hair, and brush it through.
Amm - its holding up beautifully, and it will definatly last three months, although I will probably change it out sooner cause Im dying for some red hair.
You could just do a scalp wash. I do this with my real hair when I don't have time to wash all of my hair. Just put your hair in a really loose ponytail, a couple inches past the nape of your neck. Then just shampoo the front and top of your head in the sink without getting the rest of your hair wet.
I'm glad that you are having success with your synth hair. I have a few more questions for you, since I don't know doo doo about taking care of synth hair:
You say don't wash the hair more than once a week. But what about for really active people who get sweaty from exercise? I work out 5 days a week, and when I'm done with exercising, I'm covered with sweat, and not washing my hair is not an option. What would you suggest in that case?
The Fabreeze, do you just spray it on the hair?
With the fabric softener + water, what ratio do you mix the two and do you spray that on as well?

DONT WASH SO DAMN MUCH! Once a week is just fine :)
when you brush, brush very gently from the bottem up, and hold your hair so your not pulling on the extensions.
Use fabreeze to freshen up your hair between washings
at least once a week, blowdry on med or hot, on the lower 1/2 of your hair. keep your hair moving and brush it while you do it, will keep it super soft.
Use a fabric softner/water mixture as a leave in conditioner, like you would on real hair.
to reset a wave, braid your hair (or use rollers depending on how you want it to look) and dip it in boiling water for 5 - 10 seconds. blowdry on the cool setting.
My hairs holding up great :) - but it looks diffrent now. I have it stick straight and I cut it to right about the bra line. Im probably going to cut it even shorter soon too. I LOVE playing with hair and changing styles at the drop of a hat

Welcome to the board redhead30! That would be another great thread to start, but it may be a good idea to keep this thread limited to synthetic care, so not to confuse anyone on the differences in products and care for human and synthetic! (which, by the way, were known for going way off topic in threads here!) I am guilty myself!

I just thought it would be nice to compile under one thread all the products synth wearers use to keep thier hair nice. Also, please be specific to brand names.
Jenny RR- I'm a little concerned that your hair is feeling like straw in such a short period. Are there any long term synth wearers who don't have this problem, and so what can be done to counteract the straw feeling.
I want to like synth, but I'm getting more apprehensive from the 'straw' thing.
