The reason so many of us have gotten darker results is because our hair was already more porous from previous coloring. The more porous, the more color it soaks up. IF, you haven`t colored at all, then select an exact match if that is what you are aiming for (brightening of your own color). If you are looking to change the color of your hair then select something different, you can go darker or lighter. IF you haven`t colored before & you select several shades lighter, you may get some red. From your post it looks like you only want a shade or 2 lighter. This is completely safe at home! It is only when you want drastic changes that you should be worried about doing it yourself!! And research this board, you`ll get a lot of info!!

If you`re going to color your hair yourself (I don`t recommend it from personal experience,) they say to pick a shade or two lighter than the color you`re aiming for. Remember the color you see on the box WON`T be what you end up with--because the result is a combination of your existing color and the pictured color.

i just wanted to ask: right now i have dark brown hair and i want to get it brown i ve been hearing that people that tried to dye their hair to brown their hair turned out black would this also happen to my hair ?? can anyone please try to answer this i would really appreciate it thanks!!
