Definitely you should find a new hairdresser, then, if even bringing in pics doesn't help. Any decent hairdresser should be able to work from pics, even if they're not good enough at envisioning things to work well from descriptions.

How many instructions can you give a hair cuttter to repeat a good hair cut?
I've tried pictures
I've tried guessing at the lengths
I've tried showing with my fingers what the shape and length should be
... etc.

I get a very good hair cut every 3rd time :(
