Try wrapping your hair at night with a setting lotion. If you don`t know how to do that, go to a black hairstylist and ask them how to wrap your hair. It will take most of the curl out, but if you wet it a little bit in the morning, you can work a little bit of curl into it.

I`a 21 year old guy from Holland. I`ve been growing my hair out lately, it is now about 4 inch long. The problem is that my hair is thick and curly. The longer, the puffier it gets. I like curls, but this is going to look like an afro and I don`t like that (on me, that is :-)). My mon (who does my hair) suggested a perm to relax the curl but I`m a bit reluctant about that: it`s permanant and I`m not sure about the chemicals. Then my mom suggested setting it on rollers every now and then. She would be willing to set my hair a few times a week so I wouldn`t need a perm and still relax the afro.
I haven`t said yes yet, but I think I will give it a try. As I am new to this a few questions I hope someone can answer for me: how long will it take to set my hair and how long will it take to dry? Is it hard to sleep in curlers (my mon mentioned that)? I would like to get in touch with some other young guys who set their hair to exchange experiences, etc. Please mail me on curlypeter@hotmail.com Thanks!
