curly to wavy on guy

I have somewhat curly hair that is about 3 inches in length when streched out. When I put extra strength gel in my hair it looks pretty good, but I have been doing that for years and want to go with a more natural look for my hair. The thing is I want decently wavy hair with a good amount of body to it. What can I do or use to acheive this? I`d rather not do any thing drastic like going to a salon and getting a chemical treatment, I heard of shampoos that do this but doubt they work, almost any advice would be helpful, thanks.
