Something that I`ve tried that has worked for me is to - finally after all these years - try to work with the curl in my hair rather than try to straighten it - in the process damaging already fragile hair and making things worse in the long run. Go to a stylist that knows how to cut/trim curly and wavy hair. Look around you at school, on the streets in your town - and when you see women with beautiful curly hair - ask them where they get it cut. This will give you a good springboard for being educated on how to deal with difficult hair. A routine that I use is to wash with cool or cold water - never hot. When I get out of the shower I wrap a towel around my head for a couple of minutes and then spray with a good leave in conditioner - Biolage is the one I am using now. Then in a small container I have mixed equal parts of Paul Mitchell`s The Conditioner and Biolage Gelee. I put some in my hands and then scrunch small amounts in - working my way through my hair. I then let it air dry and try not to touch it except to "decrunchify" any little strands that I put a little too much product on. I never blowdry or use a curling iron or flattening iron - with my hair this is just asking for trouble. Hope some of this helps. I think with even the most uncontrollable curly hair - with the right product and style routine - you can tame it into something workable and unique to you.
I have wavy, frizz-prone hair that I straight using a paddle brush, blow dryer and a cheap little wonder worker called Tresemme European Slick Gel. It costs $3 and keeps my hair from getting pouffy and gross even during the summer. Before I started using this I couldn`t even attempt to wear my hair down from June to August (Michigan humidity...what a wonderful thing it is.) I went to an August wedding in Nebraska this August where it was equally sticky. I (bravely) wore my hair down after using this gel on wet hair blow dry....and after two hours of outdoor picture taking my hair was still straight, unfrizzy and only slightly "bigger" than when I stepped out of the hotel.
Honestly, everyone`s hair is different and this might not work for you, but I always recommend this gel whenever a poster needs to eliminate frizz. Whatever you try, good luck and have a fabulous weekend! :-)
