No way girly girl! If your hair is having fantastic results from your conditioning then by all means continue your current styling regimine. Every person has a different hair type and pourousity- even if it`s "african american" hair. I used to wash my hair everyday but that DOES dry the hair out. White people can do that because thier hair is coated with protiens and oils that African American hair is stripped of when relaxed. I only recommend washing everyday if you have natural hair that still has its natural protective oils. If you have relaxed hair that is dry and brittle then you need to stay away from shampoos that have ammonium in them, because they tend to dry your hair. But I wash my hair every 2 days, sometimes more if I have to, but this is because I know what my hair type can handle. TBC has a wonderful blow dry creme that keeps my hair so soft i and straight its unreal. Most of it is genetics but TBC helps as well and I get compliments almost everyday on the shininess and softness of it. African American hair care is a must, so let`s get educated because YES_ black people can grow long beautiful silky hair if its taken care of properly!

What you are doing is GREAT! My life is a testimony because I do that same routine. My story is that 2yrs and 2mnths ago i cut all my relaxed hair off so that i was left with a half inch bob. Since then my hair is now an inch below my chin, with tight very healthy curls! During this time i realized I was ignorant about caring for my hair b/c all i knew was relaxed hair. Now, I make it a law that if my hair gets wet in the shower it gets conditioned period. I shampoo once or twice a week when I feel my scalp needs to breath. Once a week I do a hot oil treatment with some Aveda oil. I`ve found that natural made hair conditioners like Aubrey, or Avalon keeps my hair perfectly ph-balanced so to prevent that occassional straw-like feeling during the hot summer mnths. I trim my hair about every 2mnths. Forget what others say b/c most of them won`t ever see succesful hair growth in this lifetime. I`m aiming for hair to my waist & i bet anyone on this site to contact me in 2yrs and I`ll show them one African Ameircan`s true succes story!!!! tresa80@hotmail.com

You are totally overconditioning your hair I know that from experience. I used to wash twice weekly and deep condition and hot oil before shampooing and my hair ended up being dry after a few months . try using a apple cider vinegar rinse instead of the conditoner sometimes.

You must have your hair in a natural style. My hair is relaxed and I need to use a blow dryer to straighten out my hair. If I washed my hair daily this would consist of too much heat. How is that healthier?

I shampoo and condition my hair everyday, if not everyday every other day. My hair is very healthy and it grows from an inch and a half to two inches per month. It is a misconception that african american women should shampoo and condition their hair daily. Your hair is an organ just like you would wash your face daily to exfoliate dead skin cells the same thing works for your hair and scalp. The reason why black women have a hard time growing their hair is because ignorance. Now there are some conditioning treatments that were not meant to be used on a daily basis. It all depends on the condition your hair is in the first place. Remember once your hair is damage it is going to fall out anyway no matter what conditioner you use. What ever don`t fall out in the wash will surely come out in the rinse. It is a myth that black women shouldn`t shampoo their hair daily and I don`t know where it came from. Our counterparts shampoo their hair daily and as the result they have healthier hair. And it isn`t because of that lice theory, it is because shampooing daily is habit forming and once you are use to keeping a clean scalp you will not be able to endure the oil that is produce from stimulating the blood flow in your scalp which produce oils. That is the reason you need to shampoo daily to get rid of the toxins, oils, and dirt of your daily life. Once you realize that you will have beautifulo healthy hair.

I tend to not think so . . . I suspect your hair is loving it, so that makes it a good thing.

I`m no hair expert Tanya, but why do you feel the need to condition 3 times a week when you only wash it once a week. I wash my hair bout once every week and sometimes once every two weeks, and I only condition during that time. If your hair is damaged then conditioning is great, but that sounds like overkill! Wash, condition, then give your hair a rest....thats how it grows healthy!
