Oh yeah, I'd be terrified of doing heatseals on my own head! Um, I
think heatseals might actually be -faster-. I've timed myself, and it
takes less time to do one heatseal than to do a pinchbraid- though I
don't really know if I'm doing it right.
Ooh, actually, Fina, could you post a scalp photo? I'd like to see how your seals look.
I mean my husband would be helping. (He deserves an award for all the help he provides with my hair.) Me on the loose with a heat clamp aimed vaguely at the back of my head would be a recipe for a trip to the hospital for burns. Also I'm absolutely positive I will four way braid not three way no matter which method I choose. Do you think that will make a difference?
I'll be glad to hear how yours wear Fina. I'm kinda torn right now between ging with my planned hair and readjusting the plan in light of this silly reunion. But if I go with the existing plan I definitely want everything looking top notch, if weird, when I'm there. Oh all the cattiness of high school with a ten year gap sinec I've delt with 99% of these people... Yeah my hair needs to look good.

Here are my thoughts. With the heat seal, you *do* have a small portion
(where it's sealed) that has an opaque-ish color to it. It's like 3/8"
long at the "end" of the braid. If you're to the point where a
braid is showing, you're going to be seeing something *anyway*, so I
don't really think there's a difference in terms of visibility.
As for wear. I've had mine in 5 weeks now and no signs of slipping
whatsoever. My own hair is growing, of course, so the braids are
growing with it, but they don't feel "loose" like they're going to fall
out or anything. They do not look any uglier than the day she put them
in nor have they
been compromised by wear -- and I think I am the most frequent hair
washer in this bunch.
I'm planning on going 10-11 weeks with this install, so I'll keep you posted.
I'd like to see some of bridget's work (is that boogiemama?).
However in this case I'm not at all worried about detectability.
I plan for the little braids to show. I figure I'll need between
300 and 400 of them to cover every inch of my scalp.
I know that the thread stays fine in the pinch braids, but when it's
not covered by other hair how do you think it will look after a few
washes when it is exposed full time? Of course I've never done
heat seals so they could get really ugly or fall out depending on how I
handle them.
Fortunately I have 8-12 weeks left on this head of hair before It becomes a serious issue.
Also as far as reusing hair. I like to clean it up and put it
intno fallsa nd what not usually. When I was in process of
removing my braid recently I ran around for about a week with the hair
being super fussy at the ends from the crimp of braiding.
When it came all the way out I decided I liked the look and made two
huge ponyfalls of fuzzy messy goodness. That's so big ass
hair!
I wonder how different these two methods really are. I know the
differences in terms of the actual technique (the heat-seals definitely
seem harder to learn and more time-consuming). But how to the compare
performance-wise, in terms of slippage, appearance, other
advatnages/disadvantages etc.? Any thoughts?
I like them both.... i think i would replace the synth hair anyways bc of change and i like the idea of fresh hair.... though i really don't think i need the fresh hair....
I like them both. The only reason I don't offer heat-sealed is 'cause I
don't think I've got them down yet (but I'm practicing). If I did them
as well as I did pinch, I'd have a serious dilemma on which to use.
Okay so I've barely got this batchin with shrinkies and I'm already thinking about what I know is coming next.
I know that I'm doing tie-ins, so the knots witll be 'well visible' as it says on sara's (PH) site. I probably will get more people that know about this over on the hairboard but I'll give it a whirl here.
So I won't be using my natural color. And if I use Dome method (heat seals) then less of the hair will be reusable. But if I go with Hairpolice I don't know which color thread to use (natural color or bright obviously fake hair color).
Also I don't want the hair that long just crazy so I'm thinking I can divide the PH in half (to 24" lengths) and then not fold it over evenly when I braid it in.
Anyone have any thoughts, feelings, or experience on what holds best, looks best (I am going to a high school reunion with that hair in all likelihood), is easiest (I have done some thred pinch braiding before but just got my heat wand so no heat sealing before), etc etc?
