I would look for a color protecting shampoo in your price range, whatever that may be. I like Redken's Color Extend or whatever they call it but there are lots of good drug store brands too. FWIW, any gentle shampoo will be ok, i.e., anything without harsh cleansers (avoiding ammonimum and other lauryl sulfates). There's tons more on this in other threads if you do a search.
What color? Reds slide out/fade easiest, especially if you use
conditioner or go in the sun. Darker colors next but not nearly
as bad, and blondes don't really fade at all.

I never use shampoo, only conditioner. My color doesn't fade to speak of. I haven't touched the length in about 6 months, and it still doesn't need it.

I don't know that any shampoo/conditioner is very good at preserving
applied color. If you don't already do so, diluting your shampoo
will help reduce the strength of its cleaning (and color stripping)
properties. And of course, shampooing less often will help retain
the color longer.

I just colored my hair and I'm not sure that my current shampoo/conditionar is "color safe". Does anybody know of a good sulfate/cone free shampoo that won't wash out my new color?
