Amm

Thanks for the advice above....

I think everyone is waiting in suspence regarding your big news and a new remover that you're testing.  Hurry.......

Last bunch of questions:

1. what is the best Double-sided fusion wand available to DIY'ers for shrinkies?

2. What are the best shrinkies available to DIY'ers?

3. finally, do you know anyone in LA who has tools to take out hairlocs?  I don't want to ask the salon where I had them installed.

Amm....i tried the mirror thing....now mind you, for the past...oh 30 years i've been cutting my own hair using mirrors...and only recently has it gotten too long in the back that i can't do a decent job on a straight line.

so i thought i'll be able to do the shrinkies myself (hubby and daughter are having sectioning issues)....but it seems like i can't get "close enough" to see my hair using the mirrors.

what setup to do you have? I have a standard makeup mirror hanging over my bathroom door and i'm looking into that, reflecting into the bathroom mirror.  I'm fine with the reverse working, i just can't see!!!  wahhh.
has someone been swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool again?

Hairlocs was devastating to my hair. On removal, a good portion of my hair was gone. I make it a point to warn everyone of this horrible, horrible method. And there's no way to really assess the damage until they are all out at the same time.

1) Yes. Shrinkies are much better compared to Hairlocs.

2) I personally do an entire install on myself.

3) Using mirrors.

4) Never personally done this. I can think of many ways one can accomplish this if they want to go through the bother of pretipping the hair and then going back and dotting each shrinkie on the inside with some glue and allowing the tip to set up inside. It would be a matter of choice how to get that done.

5) Vegetable oil but I'm going to report back on this soon.

6) Double-sided fusion wand. You CANNOT get the same results with a typical flat iron.

7) Personal preference. Latex is easier and less expensive to work with. Latex can give the tip a spongy feel. Liquid Gold is harder to work with but holds better inside the shrinkie.

Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure hairlocs is causing a lot of hair breakage. what is your experience?

1. Have shrinkies been better for your hair?

2. Do you do your whole head alone?

3. If so how do you do the back of your head?

4. How do you glue pre-tipped hair into a shrinkie to make application faster and what kind of glue do you use? How does this affect application?

5. I've read about all the methods for removal on this site, what works best for you?

6. What heating wand is the best for shrinkies?

7. I am gonna pre tip my own hair.  A few different instructions are posted on the site.  All seem to be really good.  What do you think is best with shrinkies: Latex (with nail glue on the tip), LG or the glue from adhesive sticks melted in a glue pot?

Hope this isn’t too many questions

I am. I am a reformed Hairlocs user, too. I highly recommend the switch if you're having Hairlocs issues.

Anything in particular you want to know about being a DIY (Do-It-Yourselfer)?

I'm thinking about switching my extensions from hairlocs to shrinkies.  I want to do it myself.  Is anyone out there doing their own extisions with shrinkies (on themselves)?

I don't want to get too ahead of myself as I'm still doing a trial run of some stuff but I may have some really big news on the horizon as far as shrinkies goes.

Tighter seal, better grip, long and short lengths and a price well below what you've seen.

I'm also testing a remover that is beyond anything else I've tried. Three hours take downs of entire shrinkie installs will be a thing of the past.

Stay tuned and I'll be reporting on this soon... promise.

I have been having good luck with shrinkys now. I tiped with epoxy the tube sticks to this good. then I heat it so that the tip ends up flush with the end of shrinky-advice from sas- .I do not roll or eaven touch the shrinky after heating to a count of 12 to 13 listen for the sizle. The ones I rolled or squished allways soften or just loose ther seal. It is hard to keep your fingers off but once it cools it is quite strong and smallIve done 4 clients and myself this way now! I am useing doc kristens seem a little thicker and I cant melt them down as small

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA That's hardcore!

I think I experience this(with both shrinkies and tubes) because 1.My hair is fine and 2.It hasn't had color in months, so not that its too oily, just O natural!

Keratin fusion...here I come!

The ones around my face may never come out.  I got real crazy on those.  I used the tiniest little strands and cut the shrinies down really short.  and had the whole strand tacky and rolled but not cured with LG then cut the tip very short (1/16") and dunked in LG again then attached.  I feel like if the couple of hairs those are attached to wouldn't rip out of my head that you could pick me up and carry me around by the ones around my face!

If it's any consulation...the ones in my nape(and around my face) are always the first to slide!

No big surprises but one little one.
So I think I've lost all or nearly all 20 tips that I put in with single wall tubing alone.  I might have one or two stragglers at the 12 day mark now.  They were installed with a conair flat iron for what thats worth.

More surprising is that the single wall tubing that I used with fresh LG on the tip as it was installed didn't holdup much better.  I haven't lost much if any of my own hair but I had figure that the LG plus tubing would yield a better result.

I need to put these back in causes I'd like to be able to wear my hair in a ponytail and these were the rows closest to my nape.  So I'm thinking I may try the LG and tubing again for part of them but use Docs wand.

I have also lost two 'normal' shrinkies but I reallly don't think dropping two in the first 8-12 days is sucha  big deal.

I'd like to get my hands on some other varieties of tubing but i'm not so sure I'll be using shrinkies for the long haul except for real close to the hairline (such a dream!).  And if I'm not going to use them why am I testing all this stuff?  Oh yeah cause I *have* to know.

:)al
