I was at a hobby store the other day, browsing through fabrics and such, and I noticed they had a latch hook tool, bigger then the microneedle I got from docs, and smaller then the latch hook I got from the bss, it had a really long handle but nothing that cant be shortened with cutters ans bending, and it was a little over $3 - perfect size for shrinkies.
Seriously, the fabric stores and hobby stores are just oozing with things to be used on/with hair
Metalgirl that's the one!! I just buy wire at the craft store and I have five of them so I thred them all and can do a whole head with out haveing to thread more. But do you know what the real pupose of this is ? Maybe you can post a photo for them and someone will know. I cant imagin doing this or the rings with that tool doclocks sent yuck!
For the eurolocs, thetool is basically the handle of a ventillating needle with a looped piece of fine gage wire. I could make my wire as long as I wanted it, so I usually made it long enough to thread at least 50 links before I'd have to rethread.
also, MB has a tool that's a skinny metal hook just a little longer than the length of a pencil. I can fit about 15 shink links on it before I have to rethread.
Not sure what a button aid is. I wil try to get a photo up. I know this tool would help you guys out . if it comes down to it I will order some from short to long and send them to you guys

Laura: I've had the exact same problems with the needle. I would have
to sort of feed the hair into the hook with my other hand to make sure
there was enough, but that's a big pain in the ass and sort of defeats
the purpose. I don't think it's the best tool for the job either.
Marie: I think I know the tool you're talking about. When I had
Hairlocs, I remember that they were applied with a needle that held
multiple locs at one time. I never got a really close look at it though.

mocha, that should be up this week. I'm away at work and trying to sneak web making in when I can. The prices will be significantly lower than Doc Locks but they're not set yet. The tutorial won't be up until probably next week when I can get the photos done. :)
I have never atempted to post a photo.I just bought a digital camera however so I will try. today is crazy tomarow too, I think I will need a good chunk of time to figure it out.soon as I do I will post it. I am wondering if metal girl has one I dont know if hairlocs used the same thing?
A piece of floral wire bent in half will do just fine--it's easy to
slip over the hair in question and big enough to not get lost in all
the hair.
Personally, I prefer using my webcam to view the back of my head.
With its zoom, I can see things on the follicular level (so to say),
which is relatively important, as I don't really have that much extra
hair to spare (as it gets caught in the random shrinkie or
cross-attached.

I have all three size needles from Docs.
For most shrinkie applications I think you really need that big one. Though I hear dental floss is good.
I do like the smaller ones closer to hairlines and parts.
Especially when I'm using a shrinkie cut in half. I don't want as
much hair in either my tip or the natural hair section and I think the
smaller ones give you good boundaries on this.
I wish I could find where to buy this tool I have !!! It works better than any thing else it is a handlie that opens you insert a wire loop and you can make it as long as you want ( mine I do about 8 inches) and it holds many shrinks or micro rings . You can get them from short to long and I got them through euro locks but for DIY I dont know where you could get them.They must be for some sort of craft but I went to a few stors and they didn't have a clue!! If any one else is familar with this and knows where to get them please let me know. Maybe kristen could get them from short to long and resell them on her site.They realy are great

i just posted last night about the size of the hook and that it was tough to pull hair through the shrinkie.
i think i'm going to steal my daughter's latch hooker and see if that helps. the dental floss threader sounds good too.
i was just contemplating about presectioning my hair w/ those little
rubber bands ...and once the shrinkie is in...snipping the rubber band
off. They're like 50 cents for 250 - that's a small expense to
make things easier.
has someone been swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool again?
