Well, I think you could do either, but I'd opt for the 50mm. It's
supereasy to straighten--just take a hot shower. I think it'll give you
a little more flexibility, at least at first, than the straight.

I think three bags will be more than enough, if you're going for a 16-inch look.
With monofiber (PH or Dome), you seriously do not need to worry about
straightening the hair. Even the loose wave 50mm straightens on its own
after one or two washes, and if you just blew the hair dry (be careful
when doing this--keep the dryer moving and use low heat), you'd be able
to get it pin-straight in less than 5 minutes, I guarantee you. There's
no need at all for a flatiron (you may need it for your real hair on
top, but not for the synth. Blow-drying synth creates totally
pin-straight hair--straighter than you could ever get human hair to be,
really. It's much easier to straighten synth than to add curl to it,
actually.

I haven't seen the other thread? Not pinch braiding, doing shrinkies.
I'm not necessarily going for something that screams my hair is faux.. is that what I'm looking at because my hair is so thick? I mean, everyone is going to know it's fake because I have the longest hair I've had in years, currently.
The blowdryer on low will remove the wave as long as I can brush as I dry it.

so bra strap length is roughly what i have and I used 16". I cut
the PH which is 48" into three sections to pretip (more on how that was
accomplished in another thread if you haven't found them yet).
But if you are pinch braiding I would think you could only get two
sections per bag. anyhow with three tips per length I used
something like 3.5 or 4 bags (I wrote it down ina post here
somewhere). However I was most definitely going for volume as
well as a few inches of lenght.
And I used 50mm so I lost a little of the length there.
but you probably want at least two colors if you are going for a
natural look and possibly three (go hunt down SAS's post on her
?prostyles? class). SO you might want to do 2 in the base color
and one each in the other two (??____?? and glint).
if you are going for a completely 'Hi I have fake hair!!!!' look then
since you aren't seeking volume I wold say three is plenty.
As my hair is nearly pin straight if I comb it while wet and instead I
let it natural dry and have wave on I'm really not to good ont he
straightening knowledge. I know how to straighten the synth
without hurting it (blowdryers on low are your friend) but I have no
idea how this will affect your natural hair. Might not take any
curl out at all.

I should have specified that I am definitely wanting to go the way of synth. I can't get past the thought of finding dead lice in hair, plus the karma issue. I'm crazy apparently, hehe.
So with that said... will I be able to straighten my own and go with synth extensions? I have a regular straightening iron (from before Chi was so popular LOL) and then the ceramic chi... however I could straighten my hair with a curling iron - it was what I did when I was younger.
I want at least bra strap length or longer. Bra strap length seems like it would be almost perfect, though.
1. Depends on how you straighten it. You can run anything over human
hair extensions, obviously, and blowdryers and metal flat-irons are
okay on monofiber (test a small patch first, obviously). Ceramic tools
get too hot for synth, though. So yes, you can straighten your hair
with extensions in.
2. How long do you want the finished hair to be? I'd recommend 3 bags, if you only want to add length and not much thickness.
I'm new to all of this and have never even had extensions, but I have a couple of questions.
Edited to add - I plan on getting synthetic hair.
#1 - my hair is wavy, but I straighten it either with a blowdryer or an adjustable heat ceramic iron. I hate it wavy and would like to avoid wavy extensions if it all possible. Is it just a fantasy to think I'll be able to still straighten my real hair, or is it possible? Should I just deal with it and get wavy extensions?
#2 - because I want to get in on the plastikhaar order, how much hair would I need to buy? My hair is right at shoulder length (as in, touching the tops of my shoulders) and not thin, but then again, I guess it isn't thick. I want to add length, not necessarily thickness but that's okay too.
