someone said pretips the size of shoelaces....that would be the shoelace TIPS....but my idea of shoelace tips were a lot larger than what i really could use.

if your tips are any bigger across than 1/8", they won't fit through the shrinkie with your section of hair. it helps to be able to put the pretip way up in before you heat the shrinkie, as the pretip has a tendency to slip down a little.  i pretipped w/ shrinkies too...and then dropped w/ nail glue.

i'm on my second washing and right now i have no more shedding w/ the pretips than i do w/ MY OWN hair.

i think i have somewhere around 200 tips out of a 14" long weft 1/4 of human hair.  i didn't use ALL those tips on my head...but i have a fricking lot of shrinkies on my head right now!! LOL
has someone been swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool again?

When pretipping for extentubes remember that not only do you want the pretipa nd your hair to fit you want them to fit confortably so that you can really mash the tube flat.  they lay better and hold better that way.

I don't do human hair so I have no idea how many you can get out of a bundle of bohyme.  it will certainly depend on how long it is.  Also I would  say if you are addingm uch lenght you definitely want at least 200...

Good luck and post pIcs when you are done!

Nic your natural hair looks lovely - really shiney and healthy.  What col of bohyme do you use? You look like a col 3 (my supplier doesnt do col 3 bohyme)  I need to keep dying col 4's to get col 3's for my customers.

That sounds like such a horrific experience. I wonder if anyone else has heard of that. :)

I just tried my first pretipping! I took the weft of hair and sectioned out strands leaving the weft intact. I then took Liquid Gold glue and put a small amount on each small section. I then rolled each strip with my fingers and it was quite easy! I put nail glue on one of them to see how it would differ. The one that I did with the nail glue appeared more sturdy.

Then, pretip experiment #2, I took the fusion gluestick and attempted the same proceedure. The glue dried up immediately before it even touched any other hair strands. I never even got to roll it. The glue just stayed on one place!

My third experiment was to see what the shrinkie would look like melted onto hair. I did not have a needle or a wand gun to do this, so I used my hot iron. (Just to see if clear shrinkies might work for me) I did not like the way the shrinkie stuck to my hot iron and decided that was not too bright but I was so curious that I did not want to wait for my wand to come in the mail! But I am thinking that I should have chosen the colored shrinkie instead of the clear? I'm a Brunette.

About 5-10 yrs ago, I decided to try an expensive hair salon in the city assuming that I would get what I paid for. My first clue should have been to stay away because they wouldn't explain over the phone the method that they used for extensions. So I went directly after I hung the phone up, and the next thing I know, they had these Russian women taking pieces of my natural hair and sewing on the extensions with what looked exactly like fishing wire and they tied them in knots all  over my head! It hurt like hell, looked terrible, and left permanent bald spots. I have never heard of Microillusions so I'm not sure what they were calling it!

Nic: I can see from your pic that your hair is fine, and I think extensions should work well on you. You're very, very pretty, which helps. Bohyme should work nicely; it tends to be a finer, thinner sort of hair that will blend well with your own. A word of advice: When you start pretipping, not only look at the tubes to gauge the size the tips should be; after you've tipped a few, actually try to fit them inside the tip, bearing in mind your own hair will have to fit in there too. I was pretty lazy about that the last time I pretipped, and when I finished, I realized there was no way the tips were fitting in the small-size extendtubes; fortunately, I had some mediums lying around, so I used those. I agree with Syren that you may want to think about using larges or at least mediums for most of your head, and reserve the smalls for the more visible areas.

HairRaisin: Yeah, the shrinkie holes are actually fairly large. You can make some pretty sizeable pretips with them; just make sure they're small enough so that the shrinkies actually have room to shrink. What was the fishing-wire technique that cost you $3000? Was it like microillusions?

My hair is long brown, hair parted on side with bangs swept over and it's in long layers framing my face. My natural hair is very unmanageable (baby fine and slippery, hard to hold any style) so I have been getting wefts sewn in, glued in and once even by using fishing wire that cost $3,000! True!

So I decided to seek alternative methods and VOILLA! Here I am. My next step is to experiment with fusion and/or shrinkies. I had thought about microlinks, but I travel alot to my second home in Costa Rica, and I was having visions of being at the airport with the metal detector going off with everyone staring at me! Also, the glue is driving me crazy with that musty smell, the sewn ones hurt my head and slip too easy.

So what is your plan? Do you want more body and/or length? Your pic looks great by the way!

thats me in the white shir (before i chopped off my hair to my shoulders... You prolly would have a hard time telling but my that frames my face is very fine so im hoping the extentubes wont be too noticable once I put them in... But anyways if you can picture me with short hair from this pic that would be the "before" and I'll make sure to post the after pic. (digital isint working or id post one with it cut).. hairrasin you mind me asking what your hair looks like now?

It's hard to beleive that shrinkies are larger than extendtubes! Today is the first day I've ever seen them and my first thought was, "You've got to be kidding!" The shrinkies that I just received in the mail are very small so this should be extremely challenging. I wasn't sure what I was expecting them to look like, but I know that I'm looking forward to experimenting! I will try first with a mannequin, great idea.

Now shrinkies and extendtubes are two different things: shrinkies have BIG holes and you can make bigger pretips than you can for extentubes, which are much smaller in diameter!

Nickandnick, if you got just the small extendtubes, you may want to also order the large size. Use the large in the back of your head, and the smalls near your part and hairline and in the front.

Hairraisin, you should definitely print out directions! Plus, there are some excellent picture tutorials around - look at those, too. Also, practice on a mannequin head if you can. Putting in your own hair is so doable - if I can do it, anyone can.    But you may want someone to do the back for you.

Good luck, chicks.

nickanick003, I'm right with you! I just received my first shrinkies in the mail today and thought the same thing as you did. I'm going back to other posts that explain pretipping. I can't even thread a needle so this is a huge challenge for me also. I just wanted to let you know that your not alone right now! I think I might start printing out the instructions to have handy when I'm ready to begin.

I know, those holes are so tiny--I assume you got the small size, then? I have no idea how many small-size tips you can get out of one package of Bohyme, maybe 200?

Slippage can be a problem with extendtubes, although it depends a lot on the type of hair you have and your care regimen. Whatever you do, do not condition near the tubes; that will encourage slippage. Only condition the length of the hair. And make sure to close each ring nice and tight.

Good luck! :)

My extentubes just arrived:).. Now I'm waiting for my hair so I can begin the "exciting" process of pretipping. I couldnt help but notice how damn small the holes are in the extentubes and all I can think, "I'm gonna have to fit a pretipped strand threw that!" I'm a newbie at this so bare with me ladies...Could any of you tell me about how many pretipped strands you can get out of a 4oz bohyme bundle, roughly? Theese things really dont slip when you shampoo/condition you hair?
