Floe - thank your for starting this thread. I am in the same predictment.

I am of Finish ancestry, my skin is fair, and my hair is dark blonde. I look so much better with a light blonde color, my face just comes alive with light blonde hair. I have been experimenting with coloring and just cannot get it right. And the roots are horrible, although Clairol Root-Touch up is nice.

Anyway, if you find a good high-lift product, please post it - as I am looking for the same thing.

You're from Finland? So cool-- my husband is from there, and he always tells me about all the beautiful girls and good people. I always get jealous of his hair because it's such a perfect color-- golden blondish, with his light blue eyes. Gotta love it. I'm going back blonde too-- I've been a red head for a few months but I'm trying to lighten-- currently I'm orange though, because I'm in the in between stages. It's a little scary :-) Anyway, just wanted to say hi-- good luck with the new color :-)
Peace out

Hi again and thanks a lot once again!

I have always coloured and bleached my hair in a salon. I'm from Finland and I have quite pale skin, which is a bit yellowish. With my natural hair (which is between light brown and dark blonde, so have hairdressers said to me) I look not so healthy, I think my skin look brighter with lighter colour in my hair.

By the way, was the high-lift blonde color you tried before store bought or did you buy products from sally's? I know store-bought High-lift blondes (like Les Blondisse, or whatever it is called) did NOTHING for my natural color, but stuff bought at sally's worked really well. Definitely go into a salon or buy professional stuff if you are thinking of going the high-lift route.

Hello Floe-

I am not trying to sound nosy but do you mind if I ask what nationality you are? I know you mentioned your English is not so good. The reason I ask is because I noticed the colors you DO like are both pictures of very fair, Caucasian women with ash hair. While these colors are lovely, they are not for everyone and may be hard to achieve if you are not ash-based and fairly light to begin with. Plus, ash-shades are generally a no on warm-toned skin (almost everyone in your NO pile had warm tone skin w/warm tone hair.) I personally love ash or beige toned blondes and many people agree that these colors look more "natural," but golden and vanilla blondes look lovely on warm skin. Besides, if a person is ethnic to begin with, no shade of blonde is going to look "natural" anyways, so they might as well go with the most flattering shade (which are generally more golden). My base color is probably on the beige side right after it is colored, but it usually does turn a smidge gold by the time I am due for a touch-up. I hate to tell you, but a high-lift color cannot lift anyone but natural blondes to the very light blonde color you obviously desire. You COULD however lift to a fairly light base, which on its own might look a bit gold, but blended with bleach hilights will look quite blonde. A purple based shampoo can usually combat most of the gold I dislike, and I am sure this would work for you as well. Let us know how it goes. I know how that quest for the perfect "blonde" shade can seem to be so challenging.

Thank you for your answer, norskygrl21! I think I will consider that high-lift colour. I'm just afraid that it will not be blond enough for me . I have tried high-lift colour too, but it was a quite long time ago, and my hair looked.. ummm not orange, but not nice color, too much red in it. I will send a pic of that colour later if I found it. The shade was golden blond or something like that, warm colour. But with highlights it could be better.

I'm also thinking, that maybe a bit colder colour would look better than warm blonde, I don't know. If somebody has photos about blonde colour shades, it would be great.

Hi and Welcome to the forum!!

For awhile a couple years ago, I bleached the top half of my hair and then had the bottom layers colored a dark brown. Naturally I am a level 6, which is considered light brown to dark blonde depending on the swatch chart. Looked pretty cool, but it was funky/trendy rather than natural looking.

If your biggest fear is dark roots, the last thing you want to do is bleach because they will look even darker next to that Level 11-12 bleached hair. It sounds like you like the idea of bleach because it is an all-over application, which is easier for maintenance and I understand where you are coming from. Since you are relatively light to begin with, why not consider a high-lift color? You could get a pretty shade of light blonde without bleaching.  You  color every 4 weeks so your roots really would not be a problem, and since they are only doing regrowth it would not be nearly as damaging. You should consider this, I have been many shades of blonde and have tried all-over bleach and other methods but I am back to a high-lift color blonde with bleach hilights every 12 weeks. Much less damaging than all-over bleach. Good luck and keep us posted

Hello everybody!

I have bleached my whole hair couple of times some years ago and later I have taken lots of blonde highlights but always gone back to my natural colour, which is something between dark blonde and light brown. And always I have missed my blonde hair...

Now I have had my natural colour about 6 months (before that I had blonde highlights and then coloured them back to dark in a salon). Now I'm dreaming of blonde hair again, but like before, I'm afraid of the dark root (and the money that colouring the root would take) and hair damage. When I had higglights, the hairdresser  always did the highlights again (not just roots). That made me worried about their condition (I have chin length hair).

This is complicated. I enjoy so much of blonde hair and I think they look great on me. I have heard about bleaching just the top of the hair, so it would be easier to color the roots beside by doing highlights, when it's impossible to bleach just the strikes. Or what kind of blonde shade would be good?

Give me suggestions! Thanks a lot!

(Sorry about my not so good English)
