Clarifying shampoo

Some people recommend clarifying shampoos to remove harsh chemicals such as chlorine (I've heard good things about JASON's swimmers shampoo) and remove buildup from silicones or extra styling products.  (Professing my ignorance here because I don't use clarifying shampoos so I can't make a recommendation).  Maybe there's something in the Hairboutique marketplace?

I've heard people mention clarifying shampoo,  for the build up on the hair.  My question is how often should you do it and what's a good one?
