i normally double band the ends and also sew into the length of weave.  You are suppose to cut the bands at the end but i just leave them there for extra support

i dunno if i would say less damaging though.... well yeah i guess it would be. It would put some of the strain on the string and more hold of the hair so it doesnt yank it everywhere...

I wore a weave for  5 years, and my hair is fine straight, fine, and thin.

Anyway, my stylist always braided in some synthetic hair ( from those jumbo braids you can buy at the BSS for just a few dollars) and she just braided all the way down to the ends. 

For her rows, she would actually do 2 braids, one from each side of the head, and they meet in the middle of the head.  She said you want the 'closed end' of the braid near hairline and the 'open ends' of the braid would meet in the middle.  She would sew these braids together with upholstry thread and then sew the weft on to that.  She was so good, these things lasted in my crappy hair for about 8 weeks, with minimal slippage.

Hi!

Jenny -- this is exactly what my stylist was trying to explain to me... I think, anyway. This is the way she is doing my install (at the back of my head)...

Is this really less damaging than a "normal" weave??

oh that would make sense. Braid with thread and synthetic hair and tie it off like pinch braids. Kinda like pinch braid tracks?! Wow you girls are amazing thanks for all your help!

The extension stylist I know ALWAYS ran thread through the
cornrows of Caucasian and Asian hair to better anchor the weft
and she believed it was less damaging this way. Sounds
similar to what Jenny said. I believe this is how she may have
tied off the cornrow. I am not sure of the actual technique, but I
know she tied them off with thread, not rubberbands. Sorry I am
not much help, just my two cents...

yeah, what Jenny said.  For caucasian hair, add some synthetic hair and then you can sew the braid in thread first before you sew the weft on for added security.

FYI: For Asian and Caucasian hair, some people recommend incorporating some synthetic hair into the cornrows to provide more "bulk" and create a stronger "base for the wefts. Apparently, this helps them to hold longer. :)

I am looking into weaving again and I like it alot because it is so much better for your clients hair than glue, especially if stylists like me make the braids nice and comfortable. The one and only problem I have though is when you're making one track all the way across the head how do you make it so the braid doesnt come undone? The only thing I can think of is rubber banding it but i know this isnt correct. I know someone knows how to do this correctly and they never explain it in tutorials. If someone could direct me to a tutorial or explain to me how it works I would be most grateful! :)
