I have Indian hair as well. You
just have to learn to love your hair. People of Japanese descent
usually have thinner, and straighter hair than us. We have thick,
wavy/straight hair. If you want to go natural, without straightening
your hair everday, or getting it chemically straighted, I would say to
encourage the curl.
To make it curly, just apply gel when your hair is damp after being
washed, and scrunch it. Scrunching is grabbing a fistful of hair and
holding it up and pressing it against your head. It usually makes my
hair curly--just avoid putting your hair in a ponytail while it's
drying, because my hair always becomes straightish/wavy again.
Also, you could get a good hairstylist who could arrange a good haircut for you that would suit your face.
I forgot to mention that the guy who did the process on my hair charged me a lot less than people with curly hair (i had wavy hair) because he didn't have to flat iron in tiny sections twice (or something like that).
I, too, have indian hair. It drives me insane because the top layer is
frizzy and coarse whereas the bottom layers actually sort of hold a
curl (well, wave).
I invested 125 in a Sedu flat iron. Best investment of my life. I don't
blowdry my hair, and instead just use the iron after air drying. It
takes me about 15-20 minutes to straighten my hair and it stays til I
wash it (which for me is every other day). It's absolutely incredible.
After using it, a lot of people noticed. One of my roommates was
helping me put my hair up and said she was jealous because "genetics"
gave me soft, shiny, perfect hair. (Yeah, I fessed up to the iron ).
Seriously it's the best thing I've ever spent money on. Highly
recommended for us girls with in between (not curly/not straight)
problem hair. And its cheaper than the japense hair straightening.
I am Indian with Indian hair too and my semi-straight, semi-wavy hair
used to drive me nuts! About a year ago, I did that japanese thermal
straightening process and I love the results! My hair is now way more
manageable and I now can have a layered style without my hair becoming
a big frizzy mess.

personally I think your hair is much nicer then the pic but if you want
a change maybe you should try a different cut. The girl in the pic
looks like she has a lot thinner hair then you do. I dont think this
cut would even look the same on you due to the volume of hair you have
comapred to her. try a flat iron to get rid of the waves my hair is
naturally curly
( tight curls) but if you get the right flat iron you can get rid of the waves. good luck
You would have to get your hair layered and straighten it probably
almost every day with a flat iron (and possibly some product to help it
hold).
First, straightening may or may not work on your hair (I've heard some
people of Indian descent say it didn't work so well on theirs), so you
may want to try it to see if it works before you go for the cut.
Second, straightening is really bad for hair's health, so you would be
entering into something that you've done without so far that would be
damaging. Third, if any of the wavyness is natural, and not caused by
what you've done to it, you may find it goes more wavy when you layer
it.
Personally, I bet your hair is more lovely the way it is without the damage that may happen with straightening.

haha, thank you but that is not me (i wish) her hair resembles mine in texture and length but not color....and i agree her hair is gorgeous. but i have all these baby hairs..i mean A LOT...on my crown..i cant get them to stay down and ive been "growing them out" since i was BORN.

I personally think your own hair is much prettier than the hair in
the other picture, IMHO. You have beautiful hair (if that is you
in the picture) and if you are frustrated with it, just get a few
highlights or long layers. My good friend is Indian and what I
would give for her mane of hair........

Hello - I am Indian and have that "Indian" hair - you know, coarse, flat, not very straight yet not curly..just uncomfortably wavy...with those crimps that happen when you wear a ponytail day after day...
i want to try something new with my hair. it has no style - it is just all even length...no bangs..basically like this:

is it possible? or is my hair just WAY too wavy? what other styles can you suggest? pictures would be helpful - its hard because of the texture of my hair.....coarse....not smooth.....:(
