Hey spaci32,

I'm mitch319 I've been a haircutter/hairstylist since 1993. I my shop I use panten try using panten for dry hair and use about a quarters worth in your hand when appling to your hair. Then take a wide tooth comb and comb all the conditioner through your hair let the conditioner stay in your hair about ten to 15 minutes if your hair is long use a little more conditioner. This should make a difference. when you rince the conditioner out of your hair comb out your hair your hair should feel smooth. Towel dry your hair lightly and style your hair you'll notice a difference.

Sincerely

mitch319

Clarifying does dry hair out, which technique are you using to clarify?  eKatherine suggested a good vinegar rinse.  I use Tresemme European Deep Cleansing Shampoo as my clarifier about once a week.  It uses the gentle cleansing detergent Sodium Laureth Sulfate as opposed to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which is very harsh.

Try some great leave-in conditioners like Aussie Hair Insurance Leave In Conditioner for weak, distressed hair; Redken All soft addictive hair transformer for dry hair; or Matrix Biolage Fortifying Leave In Conditioner.

Silicone sprays are great for dry hair if you use them sparingly, and if you clarify.  They will make your hair feel soft and luscious.

**Hair type: 2a, which is wavy and fine.
**Color: Naturally dark brown, currently dyed reddish brown.
**Length: below shoulder length

I was starting to think maybe I'm getting some silicone buildup.  I used pantene for years in high school and had the best compliments so don't know what's changed now. I also only wash my hair 2-3x per week and wash with the creme to nature shampoo for normal hair.  That does have a hydrolized wheat protein in it but I vaguely remember buying this shampoo because my hair was starting to feel dry then.

I was considering trying the conditioner only wash for a while too but I still would need to condition/deep condition.  Any non silicone suggestions.  I already clarify every other week since that dries my hair out quite a bit as well.

You've probably got protein and/or silicone buildup. Products that coat with these often don't have the oils and moisturizers your hair may need, so buildup causes a real problem, and you get breakage.

You should clarify regularly by rinsing in 1/2 cup vinegar in a quart of water. Minimize the use of silicones. Many silicone products claim to be healing or repairing, but they just put a glassy coating on the surface of the hair, leaving the damage to get worse.

Get some jojoba and work a few drops of it through your hair every day.

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

I have normal/fine bsl hair and noticed that lately it's been getting pretty dry feeling.  I've been using loreal natures therapy deep conditioner and beyond the zone split mender every day but nothing is making it feel softer.  I don't blow dry it or comb it excessively.  I'm pretty sure my hair can handle silicones as natures therapy has them.  I've also used Redkens deep conditioner (actually today) but not sure how much help it'll do.

Any suggestions on a good leave in and treatment would be great.  I've been growing my hair for over two years and it's been a long and extremely slow process and don't want to have to cut it off due to dryness and split ends.
