Yeah, it's really not too heavy, considering how long and full it is. the braids go up about 1 to 1 1/2 inches above my ears all the way around, if that make sense.

Wooo!  Thank you Jenny!   Hmmm...now I'm wondering which to go with!  I contacted Rae, so hopefully we can figure something out on what is the best way to go for me.

Yup--I like the synth much better. It took a little getting used to at first, but it's been a breeze ever since. In fact, my morning hair routine has gone from about an hour to 15 minutes. No joke. The reasons I prefer synth?
1. Cost (a fraction of the price).
2. Consistency of quality (no "bad batches").
3. Color choices and consistency (no fading).
4. Faster drying time.
5. Lighter weight.
6. Length availability (up to 48 inches!).
7. Lower maintenance (does well with minimal washing and styling).
8. Gorgeous wave patterns that look *perfect* for about two weeks, then can be reset with hot rollers.
9. Ability to make the hair superstraight and smooth in minutes with a blow-dryer or steamer.
10. Hair is a bit stiffer, but I find this makes it look fuller.
11. Looks great when I wake up in the morning (for some reason, my HH extensions never did).
12. I don't like the politics of the HH trade, so I feel better buying synthetic.
13. Tangles a lot less.

Disadvantages:
1. Initially there can be a bit more shine than HH, but this fades quickly.
2. Hair is a bit stiffer at times than good-quality HH (it's positively strawlike when wet), but this doesn't bother me personally.
3. Using hot metal tools is risky (I have found I don't need these now, and only style occasionally with a blow-dryer or hot rollers, but if you're a hot tools addict, you may need to adjust your routine). ***Note: You can use hot tools on thermofiber, which is also synth, but a bit different.

I would seriously recommend that everyone give synth a try or check out some samples at the very least. If you don't like it, you haven't spent mch $$. If you do like it, you'll be saving a lot of money and aggravation long-term. The only instance I'm not sure I'd recommend synth for would be kinky hair. For instance, if you wanted a yaki texture, I'm not sure synth would work, but maybe there's a brand or wave pattern that would work; I'm not sure.

:)

I'm new here so if you have answered these questions before I apologize!   How do you have it in?  Wefts or Pinch braids, etc?  Do you like the synthetic hair more than the real stuff??  Thank you with being patient with my newbie self! :)

It's PlastikHaar, which is monofiber synth. My real hair is a disaster. The lengths are all different, depending where on the head we're talking about, but my shortest pieces (at the top of the crown) are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long; the longest top, loose pieces are 7 or 8 inches long; and the parts I'm trying to grow out from previous extensions damage from Hairlocs and fusion are now about 5 inches long. So basically, it's a mess, but with some hairspray, I can get it all to clend fairly well (as long as there are no gusting winds, lol).

Synne: Boinks are...heavenly--the only way to manage your hair while sleeping, imo. (A low, loose braid also works, but yields a slightly more s-type wave, so it all depends on which you prefer).

It's just basically coiling and twisting up your hair into a bun and covering it with a schrungi. For the loosest wave, you can use one boink, but for wavier results, you can use 4 or 6, whatever--the more you do, the wavier the results.

Here's a visual (btw, I stole these pics and cropped them--they're actually from a very good tutorial from superstardreads.com about how to put on drawstring falls). But this is key: Leave the last 1 1/2 to 2 inches loose (it is not shown that way in the photos below); otherwise, you may end up "crimping" the ends, which can look pretty crappy. AMM's photos illustrate how you can leave the ends loose: http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=30965 )

That said, it's basically this:

Step 1: Twist a section of the hair:

Step 2: Wrap it around itself in a coiled bun:

Step 3 (not shown): Cover each little bun with a scrunchi:

Thank you.
Uhhh, I just can´t wait to get my hands on this Haar.
Ran to the door today when the postalservice knocked.
But sadly it was just the converter to use with AMM´s wand (and I still have to wait about 10 days before that is in my mailbox *sigh*).
Waiting is tough!

One more question; what is a boink?

Thanks again, everyone. I love this haar!
Update: Slept in boinks (not one, but 3), and hair is wavier now.

No. This is standard PH. It's acutally doubled over quite a bit throughout my head (keep in mind that PH is 48" long, so halfed, it's still 24). I think my length is around 28 or 29" inches?

Sure, girl. I'll probably be placing another order in a few weeks. I can't imagine why it would take so much longer to get to the West Coast, though.

So you don't have the Powerlon yet? OK--I'll start doing some tests.

Beautiful. Love it. The extra hair is perfect.

So, you have your Powerlon? WTF.

I want to be in on your orders, J. These shipping times to the west coast don't make any sense at all.
