A lot of people use natural bristle brushes for after they put a couple of drops of jojoba or other oil in their hair.  This is done only after the hair is already detangled, and the brush is only used to help distribute the oil thoughout.

Personally, I use a brush and I love it, but mine is a plastic brush with no seams and no catchy parts on it, so it's not damaging (but my hair is straight).  The important thing is starting at the bottom and slowly working your way up.  I agree with Anais that a comb helps with the psychological factor - making you slow down!

If you have curly hair, don't use a brush. Brushes break up the curl pattern and usually make curls frizzy.

Brushes, in my opinion, do the same thing a comb does... only with more damage. Brushes are combs stuck together, except they also encourage "ripping" through tangles.

Combs encourage slow detangling. You can get a Mason Pearson Rake Comb from Hairboutique for a fair price. They're hand-cut and polished smooth.

Hi everybody,

I have question about what is the best brush to use on me long hair?  It's below my shoulders almost to the middle of my back and in a V shape.  I want to grow it to my waist.  I've read about using natural bristles and then not to...I'm confused.  Since I've been reading several of ya'll posts I see that ya'll have a lot of knowledge about hair.  Please advise me.  Also when it comes to my hair money doesn't matter that much, so if the best kind of brush cost a lot please still recommend it.  My hair type is healthy, I never use blow dryer or hot iron.  It is fine with natural loose curls or waves.

Thanks so much!
