Aleene's is a water based glue - like a turbo Elmer's. So it's going to dissolve somewhat in water. That's why it was gummy. You should use a non-water based something to either tip or cover the tip. They're also easier to remove from your hair cuz you can use a solvent. Anything water based will eventually dissolve from the tip over time as you shampoo causing the strand to shed, plus it will transfer to your hair and take forever to remove as you found out. Stick to latexes, epoxies, and nail glue type things. See Mochachip for technical data.

My God..What did I do wrong with my removal then? I had a horrible time getting the residue out of my hair yesterday after my shrinkies came out. I am thinking it was a bad combo?? ( Hairlocs pretips with an overlay of Aleen's.) The stuff that was so stubborn was gummy and yellow..not hard and white. My baby fine hair didnt stand a chance! The "shrinkies" thread has more about how I went about removal. If anyone can make suggestions as to what I "shoulda, woulda, coulda" please let me know!!
I have to charge tax for all CA residence there's no way around it... with my business license and Tax ID number, Uncle Sam will come after me if I don't pay up.
.10 cents each isn't too bad... Balmain has a similar product that they sell for $9.90 for a 24 piece pack plus like $15 for shipping.... That's .41 cents each plus shipping! Holy Moly! If you want to send me a check we can bypass the CA sales tax
For those who work with LG it probably will seem to harden quickly. I guess I'm just use to it because I primarily work with fusion
When I pre-tip my hair I do use fusion but I have a little techniqe that I use to stop the fusion from melting during shrinkie applications. I pretip all my strands and then put my nail glue coating over where the hair meets the fusion bond coating about 1/4 of an inch of the hair and 1/4 of an inch of the bond. Once dry, I snip most of the fusion part off... everything above that 1/4" mark.... that way my tips are 1/2" long all together, half fusion and half nail glue. Sometimes I even put the nail glue further down on the hair and snip almost all of the fusion part off. It seems to work really well. I actually installed a full head of Shrinkies on LisaLisa who used to be a chat room regular and she only lost 3 strands before she came in to get them re-done. When i took them out I only had to crunch them a little with my pliers and they slid off nicely with no additional heat needed.
The one thing I love about pre-tipping with fusion is that it's quick. I can tip a whole 4oz package in about an hour and then immediately install them... no overnight waiting
I clean mine occasionally by wiping it with a rag while it's still hot. If it's cold you can dab some acetone on a paper towel and wipe it off with that.
Did I answer everything? Hehe... let me know if I need to clarify anything...
Ok...about 20 minutes after the above post I decided to tip at least one strand before I ran off to work.
It's really easy and the fusion is rock hard. You really have to work with it fast because it sets up very quickly. The great part is that if you don't like the shape of the tip, put the wand back over it until it warms up and reshape it.
So my question now is...
Nail glue over the top to keep that fusion bond from melting inside a shrinkie? Think that will suffice? I don't want the glue transferring to my hair.
and...
Wand cleaning. It's too hot to clean while it's on but the glue really sticks to the wand when it's cold. I use the flat one like this and I'm having to scrape it off with a fingernail and I don't want to ruin that teflon coating.
Suggestions?
I'll definitely be buying an order of those chips. They're pretty cool.
