I"m in process on a whole head of DIY heat seals right now. they
require the same braiding as PB's. My husband helps since I do
box braids. I was going to PB's which I have done before for
streaks. But the thread I bought kept breaking. I did some
swearing, tried the heat sealing it worked Ta Da!
But I can do links/rings/tubes on myself without any help. I need
some help to do the back with shrinkies so I don't burn myself.
I haven't used HH. I really like my PH. I don't have to do that much to it...
I think the easiest to install as a DIY is shrinkies or microlinks
There is no way I could braid the back of my head! I've tryed it and I can do it without looking, I just can't get them very tight ( to do tracks), but I know someone on here does there own pb's
yeah I am thinking about doing the same thing myself. Wish I knew then what I know now. It pains me to realize that I am heading to the salon tomorrow to get that style done, when I could have done it myself for way less money. The whole thing will cost $500.00+ - I already gave the stylist a $200.00 deposit, so have no choice but to keep the appointment in order not to lose my money. I however plan on watching closely what the stylist does from beginning to end that way I can better do it myself next time.
I wonder as far as maintenance if I could handle to washes and hairdrying myself, I am not a beautician, but I've applied relaxers on my own hair in the past... also, I wonder once I have the microlinks/shrinkies on if I could pretty much go to any beauty shop for a hair wash, or if they would end up domaging my weave?
Is there anyone who's ever done them on their own on this board? please do share your experiences with us. Dying to know what the outcome was. I really can't afford to shed out $500.00 every 4 months to get my hair done.
Thanks!

I've been reading this forum for days on end and am amazed at the wealth of information. It's so inspiring to see so many DIYers that I want to give it a go.
I currently am growing out a short "Sharon Stone" type do.It's about 3.5 inches all over now. It's fine and thin. I like what I've read about the shrinkie method.
I'm still quite confused about what hair to get. What would you recommend for a first timer in terms of ease of installation and care. My hair is straight and medium brown. Do I go with sinthetic or real? I'm more interested in care as opposed to feel.
I am licsenced and have given myself perms back in the day so I know I can do this.
I'm in the Detroit area of Michigan, any pinch braid recommendations here? I'd choose those if I could find someone good.
