A friend of mine did, she cut layers in hair all by her self...and she looked great! But i guess that was just her luck...what if she messed it up? I'm too scared to cut my own...so..yeh.
I only trip about 1 cm of hair that covers my ear by myself. The hair still covers it completely but the length is just right enough to cover my ears a cm longer.

With one real exception, I have cut my own hair since 2000. I wear it in a chin-collar-length bob. As my hair is relatively thick (if straight), I cut hairs in the back shorter underneath by pulling them out from underneath (they will stick out themselves to an extent and lopping them off. I use a rear-view mirror. It takes time to learn it but for me it's worth it.
Yes I do. But my hair is long (barring the bangs) so mess-ups are not noticable. And I have 'mastered' the wedge bangs-trim and the rest is merely a matter of trimming the ends.
If I had short hair, I would probably not cut my own. I would like to have my hair professionally shaped, but really don't know of a good stylist I could trust.

does any body know what website has step by step instuctions to follow to cut hair at home for the first time. I am planning on cutting my hair short. I am not sure how to do it.If I can't get to the hairdresser I am going to cut it at home
I've been doing it for years, I've saved myself a lot of money and "overcuts" that I didn't want (ie too short). But I have thick wavy hair, which is very forgiving of uneven cutting.
But I must say, when I went in for a good shaping about two months ago, I looked and felt fabulous. Even for home cutters, I think it's a great thing to do once in a while.

Do it all the time, for general lack of money, some previous bad experiences with stylists, and my own self-consciousness (hate it when people feel the need every time to point out how thin my hair is or how it grows in weird directions in some places! :-P !) The only tip I can give is to mark with rubberbands, tape, or something else you can feel onto a comb so when you're measuring in places you can't see, you can feel whether it's going the right length or not. I wish I were better at doing hair so I could be of more use than that.

Way back when I had a permanent I hated. After about 2-1/2" of growth I chopped it off using the "pull up a chunk and chop it off" method. Tons of compliments, go figure.
Now I trim my long hair myself, no problem.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?
Due to lack of funds and extreme irritation with my fried hair-ends thanks to the bleaching disaster of a few weeks ago, I gave my hair a little cut today and I must say I'm v. pleased with it! It was going beserk in the heat and looked so limp and sad, so I spruced it up at the sides with a bit of choppiness and gave myself a side fringe. Didn't really touch the back, except to trim the ends; perhaps next time I do this I shall enlist a friend to help.
Anyone else here cut their own hair? And if so, can they give me any tips on the best techniques for cutting hair?
