QuoteReplyTopic: RK Hair on tracks - PICS Posted: June 27 2005 at 9:48am
fina, i have also had pinchbraids from heather. she helped kris on my last install. her pinchbraids are smaller than kris' and harder to get out. she did 1/4 or a bit less of my head. she is super nice and very good. kris always said so and i finally got to see!
I have never had a pichbraid slip (except from dollylocks, and i repeat, that was from the nape of the neck where it was so short at the time that she was impressed she could even get it in, and so was I, and I think only two came out.)
i love plastikhaar

fina! i'm so excited that you're going to see heather.... i gotta start planning my next visit to her!
in the two installs i've had with her i've not lost one single braid. not one. and i'm not easy on my hair. in the beginning i did all the careful wash and brush steps (brushing bottom up, etc) but now i treat it like normal hair and it's none the worse for wear. i'm sure there is a small percentage of people for whom pb's don't work (be it hair texture or something else). i'm going on two months with mine in now and they do not budge - i feel confident that with heather there will no operator error, if that's a consolation.
i think it's good we have different experiences here, and it's important that not everyone hears only that PB's are foolproof or error proof or whatever for everyone. it just sucks when somebody has a disappointing result.
It looks beautiful. It really is too bad about the pinchbraids. I do
know that they didn't work for Rose either, although the overwhelming
majority of people seem not to have slippage. I'm thinking they weren't
installed properly or it has something to do with your hair type.
Perhaps you can try heat-seals down the road, but the wefts look
fabulous on you too!
:)

Syren: I am SO GLAD you got rid of the install that didn't work for you and that you had waited *so long* for!! The new install looks AWESOME!!!
I'm a little worried; I made an appointment with Heather for pinchbraids. . .Jenny & Ccross never lost any . . . I wonder why yours came out ? ? ? Very troublesome!!!
Anyway - enjoy the hair - RK is proving to be great, isn't it?? PLUS I got that wonderful #8 from you!! LOVING IT. . . -Fina

LOL! Well...it IS my hair! I paid for it!
Thanks, girls.
Sunlove - I wore sewn in tracks for 15 years and never had any damage ever. No bald spots or hair loss. In fact, I grew my own hair down to my butt from years of just wearing a weave. In fact, before I found this board last December, I didn't even know there WERE other ways to put in extensions! Other than fusion, of course. So it has always worked well for me OTHER THAN THE MULLET EFFECT of not having the track go far enough on the sides. But there's where shrinkies/links come in - I'm a hair tipping fool at the moment prepping a bunch of tips to go in on the sides and in a couple of different colors to scatter throughout.
So to answer your question, I have never had any damage from tracks. Ever. But I know that's not the case for everyone. Several people have posted about traction alopecia or whatever.
WHOA KIMBEARLY!!! Those are thick tracks! It's definitely possible to make them very thin and fine - especially with thick hair like yours! That big mass is completely unnecessary. No wonder you hated them!

syren... how beautiful! you lucky girl if i didnt see that before picture i would think you were playing a joke on us, it looks so much like real hair : )
What wonderful hair you have and if you did not tell me it was extensions I would not have known. I wish when I had my tracks in it looked like yours. I had these big "turds" on the back of my head and needless to say they only lasted a few hours before I took them out.

Yeah the PB thing is weird! I know my hair is really slick. I can't even wear a headband without it sliding right off my head. I'm not against PBs by any means; it's an ingenious method and there are just too many success stories to dismiss it outright. But it's like anything - nothing works for everybody. I'm also not against PH - the medium browns and the lighter colors are awesome - it's only the darkest browns & blacks (kaffee & pfefferschwarz) that turned to brillo - the rest stayed very nice and got better and softer over time.
This Indian hair find is really great - I did color tests last night and through a combination of Kaleidocolors beige powder and toner, got 3 or 4 excellent batches of varying browns to use as highlights and accents - I'm going to put those in individually and it's going to look awesome. Now I just need someone to style it - always my biggest problem.
Just wanted to post my latest 'experiment.' Thanks, everyone, for the pats!

It's a 4, which was definitely too light, and I toned it with...with....L'Oreal Preference in 5 natural brown. 10 minutes with 10 developer and it darkened and de-reddened it just enough to match.
It does look full! But it's really not - it's the hair that's got some poof to it. It's way more comfortable than 12 oz of PH, that's for sure.
