That would lead to alot of confusion, I think...

Darn, I wish I had never helped this topic started in the first place.  He/She never showed any appreciation so far and caused total confusion.

I mean extending hair versus curling hair is totally far off.

I'd say when in doubt for chemical perms or chemical coloring, seek an "advance colorist or advance hair permer".

I understand now.  Sorry girls and guys for using the wrong phrase- "professionals".  Ok, let me rephrase- "advance hair extensionists" or "advance chemical hair permers" then.  Yup, you are right not all "professionals" are created equal.

But you see, Amm, this thread in the first place is NOT ABOUT HAIR EXTENSIONS.  IT WAS ABOUT PERMS and as Fullxdiva was saying

Originally posted by fullxdiva fullxdiva wrote:

But eehhh….. I’m not licensed, I still say do nothing, go see a professional.
so the word- "professional" just got stuck.

I consider myself "advance" or "grad school" in hair additions because I also do hairloss due to alopecia, totalis, trichotillomania, lupus, cancer, brain surgery, gastrointestinal bariatric surgery, etc... and yup not alot of "professionals" have done ALL of that.

And since I have the "thing on paper", I have the luxury to the latest trade info and invitations.  BUT I DO ADMIRE YOU ALL!   and if any of you need any my "grad school" help, you know where to find me.

Best of luck, Charlene Blacer

You know that little inner voice that tells you to just turn around and walk away?

Yeah, I don't listen to it either.

I'd like to think that the majority of us can wrap our heads around what you truly mean. As far as "advanced" techniques are concerned ... look around. The majority of us are DIY. The reason that is is because "professional" techniques have ruined our hair. We know what's out there, Charlene. We're doing our homework. We're finding what works for us by trial and error. And we're doing it on our own terms. If it's slow and not keeping in step with the latest trade info, well, I'm comfortable with that.

Nothing wrong with that if someone feels incorrect advice is being given. Last I heard, professionals still weren't walking on water so I think everyone has a valued opinion.

And I'll tell ya, the three most damaging procedures ever done to my hair were by "professionals." Perhaps if I had challenged the last one, I wouldn't have see-through hair right now.

Hi girls- let's just forget about this whole thread and past misunderstandings.

FullX- you're so sweet and hope you continue to fight for our country.  Hey I used to want to be an Army nurse when I was a kid   I'll keep praying for your safety!

Bridget- very nice hot fusions .  Keep up the great work.  Don't be afraid to try new methods.  Never get your talents rusted.  Remember that NOT ALL TALENTS ARE CREATED EQUAL.  Be the best you can be and don't let ANYONE tell you what's wrong or right.  Be your own decision maker.  Practice makes perfect and I'm so proud of you!

Purr- I don't know what you mean by 'over priced' but I've done hair extensions from $0-$3500.  And as for your curiosity, hmmm... let me think, hmmm... what I meant by 'prehistoric' & 'advance' if I could give you an analogy... like if this was school, I feel like I'm in 'kindergarten' when I really belong in the advance levels of grad school.  Probably referring to about 95% of the posts I've read so far.  Hope this makes sense.

I really admire all of you DIYs, victims, professionals, future hair extensionists.  You all reminded me of my past and that sends a sweet chill down my spine .  But I will say you all are very lucky since you have the answers all in front of you.  For me cyberspace wasn't even around and never heard of.   So I had to learn the hard way.

But I've been very busy, so perhaps a future post!!!

Love you all- Charlene

Hmm..I don't really recall saying anything insulting to you, Charlene, unless you've misinterpreted one of my comments, and I apologize if I offended you.  I think everyone here appreciates your input and helpful advice and would not want to see you leave.  I merely stated in the other thread that I think people are conditioned to believe that more expensive = better due to all the marketing and hype of some of these overpriced methods.

Just curious though - what methods do you believe to be "advanced" and what do you consider "prehistoric"?

OK! I'm sorry Charlene, I call a Truce - Give Me Love  B/C this has obviously gone way beyond hair. I don't want to make any enemies and I don't need any bad blood, especially over someone else's hair. So we cool? Now before I go Give Me Love Again  , C, it's all good.

People can be so funny when they get upset. I'm not going to make this into a tit for tat with you CyberMane. I apologize that you feel challenged and obviously offended. My intent here was not to upset you or take away from the knowledge and experience I'm sure you have worked very hard to gain.

I too, am only trying to help.... but if helping means preventing Flip from doing damage to his hair, I think that's what is important. I'm not licensed on paper, but I have been doing hair for a long time and I've gained my own knowledge and experience. You stated that you are Filipino, I am African American and I would never apply a "curly perm" in my hair, there are procedures to achieve this look, but it doesn't come in a box, it's done by a professional. And I'm sure you would never put a straightening relaxer in your hair. I was simply trying to point out and yes, as you also stated, that without "US" knowing the facts about his hair, and "HE" has doubts, it's better for him to just go see a professional so he doesn't damage his hair.

You act offended b/c you think your word was challenged as a professional, and you even made a post in Broomes response as to why question the advice of a professional. This is not about you this is about Flips Hair. You know who and what you are, no one on this forum can take that away from you. It's not about attacking anybody, sometimes we just have to agree to disagree.

If you are successful at what you do, and how you're doing it, then do ya thang girl!

P.S. was that suppose to be a sarcastic font comment?

So it seems, that it is true that some people such as yourself, Fullxdiva and Purrmachine, like to challenge professionals.  Ok fine!

First of all, let's get one thing straight.  This forum is all about helping one another.  I've have never met any of the members in this forum, however we all help one another.  It is all about HELPING.  It is all about opinions for the said topic.  We do not force anything on one another.  Sometimes the advice is embraced, other times it's not.  In the end, the decision is based upon the person himself.

My replies are based on my experiences and knowledge as a professional and a person.  I have had done perms in the past too on my own virgin hair back when Farrah Fawcett was hot and I have also had professional perms.  In the end, perms did not look good on me, a Filipino girl.

As a matter of fact, in my last post, I've ended it with "Hope this helps- but when in doubt seek a professional".  I gave my 2 cents so, take it or leave it!

You are opinionated to post your comments too related only to the topic of "Need help iwt perms!!!".  I had NO intention to force Flip to getting a perm.  At least, I was kind enough to post and to help.

Getting back to your question of how many heads???  COUNTLESS  and many, many more to come!  Many times, my clients don't even email me a picture of themselves and I reply back based on what they tell me.  Many times it takes about at least 3 solid questions before a definite along with lifestlye and habits.  But you know that saying, "if you hear the same thing over and over, you just kind of know".

My intentions are all GOOD.

PS. I don't know why the tiny fonts?

Peace, Charlene

Flip if you are asking what a relaxer is, I think you are trying to achieve a curly perm as well however, it's hard to tell exactly your what nationality or your hair texture is from the back of your . In addition, a "curly perm" may not be what you what or need in your hair. Flip are you African American? There are other options to achieve the look you want, with out having to put chemicals in your hair. If it’s virgin hair and it’s healthy try to keep it that way. If it’s not healthy the last thing you want to do is put a chemical in it, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing.

I understand Charlene that you are a licensed cosmetologist, but how many consultations have you done over the internet with your clients by looking at the back of their head? I just don't think it's wise to advise a procedure without having all the facts or knowing the history of his hair. It's obvious here that Flip has no knowledge of what to do, first clue being the size of the curls, snap rods are not meant for curls that size, curly perm rods are designed to achieve smaller, tighter, curls with a spiral appearance. The look that Flip has is more fitting for a wet set.

But eehhh….. I’m not licensed, I still say do nothing, go see a professional.

LOL- Broome, he has virgin hair!   Gentlemen, you are asking the advise of a professional licensed cosmetologist.  The damage can happen if the solution has too much heat aka 'over processed'.   This happens if it is applied directly to the scalp since the scalp gives off more heat or you did not monitor the hair.  In other words, you could cook a turkey to perfection or over-cook your turkey that has been cooked.

Hope this helps- but when in doubt seek a professional

Charlene

PS- I believe that Flip's definition of a 'perm' is achieving curls not 'perm straight'

That's easy Flip!  After curling your hair with the snap on things, apply the perming solution saturating desired areas.  Then leave it on according to what the box tells you for your type hair.  The box will then say to rinse once you see a "s" pattern take shape while unrolling the snap on things gently.  You then have to roll it back.  Rinse with water, apply your neutralizer and leave on following the recommended minutes indicated on the box, rinse again and voila!

Hope this helps & Good Luck!, Charlene
