Hi!

I happen to own a maxi-glide myself (i ordered one before they even had the "miniglide" ) and it keeps working just like when it was new. In theory, it might not work properly after a while if you do not use distilled water with the steam feature (maybe this is rumor originated?). It would be very important to use distilled water because otherwise sediment could build up and clog it up or cause it to deteiorate and what not and therefore decrease the product life.

I never use the steam feature however (because I don't regularly buy distilled water), but it still works great on my hair, and it's been working great since I bought it. I dont use it very much any more because I experiment a lot on my hair and research alternate methods for straightening (I happen to be extremely good at blowdrying my hair straight, so I just do it this way if I want straight hair in a few minutes). I used to relax my hair also, but after suffering a bad straightening job at the hands of a supposed "professional"  which caused my hair to fall out, I haven't done that since.

But anyways, the maxi-glide is a good product. It straightens just as good as many straighteners that are more expensive. I have very curly/mixed hair and I can get it straight pressed "asian-style" with the maxiglide, so I would say it is an excellent product. You can actually get fairly close to the roots (approximately up to 1/8th to 1/4th of an inch close to the scalp, which should take care of the majority of the unrelaxed hair) with this flat iron if you're good at hair styling. You are only limited by the thickness of the protective plastic which juts out slightly from the sides to stop the plates from accidentally touching your scalp. This may seem inconvenient, but it is like this for safety reasons! Safety should come first even in hair styling. The roots aren't too noticeable if your hair isn't extremely curly like mine, but it's not even too noticeable on my hair. The full sized maxi glide is also very wide and is more suitable for longer hair. If all else, for speed and convenience, you might be able to use a brush and a blow dryer to get to the roots (don't burn your scalp though, blow dryers can impart large amounts of heat just like flat irons!) if you don't want to take the time to do it with the mini-glide.

And as always, make sure to use quality conditioning products appropriate for your hair. Compare ingredients too! Sometimes you may find that two products are the same and only differ in the price and the label. For instance, John Freida Frizz-Ease has the same ingredients essentially as Zero-Frizz, and you get a lot more product for the same price with Zero-Frizz. The primary ingredient is dimethicone. BioSilk uses this ingredient too in their shampoo and conditioner (quite a bit of it actually) and this is responsible for the silky smooth feeling afterwards along with the high responsiveness to heat styling (I would say that BioSilk is disproportionately expensive). note: You will also usually find that generic products really do work as well as their name brand counter-parts (usually see "compare to _______." on the label).

Sometimes I will mix some Zero-Frizz with my shampoo and conditioner to get similar results, but you have to be careful with propotion of shampoo or conditioner to Zero-Frizz. Basically, you are paying for the convenience of not having to do this when you buy expensive products like BioSilk, since they are mixed in the exactly appropriate proportions so that it conditions excellently without inhibiting the cleaning ability of the shampoo, which is also important. You wouldn't want icky dirt, oil, and old styling products to stay in your hair! It would just be a lot easier to use it as a leave in right after you wash your hair and condition, since it's easier to apply evenly to moist hair, and usually you get the same result. Some other products may also have this magical ingredient, such as CitriShine products, which are in fact not very expensive at all! Ironicaly, CitriShine is made by the same company as Zero-Frizz, although you couldn't tell from the labels. Always do your research before you spend lots of money.

Well, I have nothing else to say, so I guess good luck with your hair styling!

did you get the package with the mini glide? this would be perfect for touching up the roots . just remember to deep condition, and to make sure to take extra care of the hiar. heat can be very stressful to the hair.
learn to love what you were born with
you can do anything if you set your mindto it (just dont try this with hair, that could turn out bad)
