Well, here is my advice for what it's worth!! Probably not what you want to hear though. I'm 50 and have a bob almost touching my shoulders. I'm thinking of growing it even longer. My natural colour is dark brown, but I have been going white for 25 years. I recently stopped colouring it and I'm really pleased I did. The white (too white to call grey) is growing through in streaks that look lovely on straight long hair. In fact, after close examination, I'm quite disappointed that there is less white than I expected. Time will sort out that problem, I'm sure! My new uncoloured hair feels and looks so much better and the world hasn't stopped revolving!!
(PS: I quite understand if you want to carry on colouring. I did that for years and was paranoid about anyone seeing a white hair on my head. For some reason, the time was right to let it all hang out. The growing out stage is not attractive, so it is not for the faint-hearted.)'
I am in my mid 50's and have a one length bob hair style which comes to the middle of my neck. About a year ago, when my hair was shorter, I had my hair highlighted, lighter than what I really wanted. I decided to let it grow one length which has been accomplished. There is anywhere from an inch to three inches of highlighted hair still left. The rest of my hair is it's natural color - medium brown with steaks of gray in the temple areas and around the front/top part of my head. Eventually, I would like to have SMALL and SCARCE reddish highlighted steaks done. It looks so much more natural. I was told in order to have that done, all of the "old" highlighted areas of my hair would need to be cut off. I sometimes use a color depositing shampoo to "tone down" the highlighted sections of my hair. The part that is really bothering me now is the gray streaks that are so noticeable. Can I use a semi permanent coloring in my hair? How would that work? Will the gray be covered and the highlighted areas stay the same? Would the natural brown in my hair stay as it is? I really need some help. I'm due for another trim, so that will remove some of the highlighted sections. I would like to mention that I wash my hair everyday. I keep it well conditioned, so it isn't in anyway damaged. Thanks for the help!
