So I've now adjusted the color of one weft.  It's by no means a huge change (I'd show you pics but once again my husband has 'misplaced' the camera).  But I'd say the hair was roughly a 1B/2 to start with (definitely not jet black).  My hair is more in the 2-4 range.  So I got a rubber made tub and thinned out the developer 2 parts 20 volume to 1 part water and then used my trusty powder bleach.  5 minutes developing (I made a whole fricking lot of bleach and just dumped it on) then lots and lots and lots of rinsing.  Then shampoo, then two different conditioning treatments.  Hair smells like the conditioner now.  Is got a nice soft wave and some natural highlights to it.  It's hard for me to see my own hair against it in the natural light (I don't have enough hands) but it looks dead on in the bathroom lighting and it's clearly just a pinch lighter than the virgin weft I left in natural light.  Which hopefully means its perfect.  Now I just need to figure out how to sew this weft to my head.  It's gonna be  just a tad different than with a those huge wawa wefts.  then a little gule at the top and boom new hair.  I feel naked, wish I didn't have so damn much work to do.

Smells like mothballs but the smell came out after one wash. I think I just used Pantene. I really like the hair.

okay I think in fact we are all on the same page just not quite communicating effectively.

bleach + peroxide(developer) = bleaching
I have some good quality powder bleach.  It may or may not be kaleidocolors it hasn't come out to play in a while.  I've used that before...

I'd rather not do permement color with say a 30 or 40 vol developer in order for it to lighten.  If I'm going to have to redeposit color I'd rather do it double process so I at least know what I'm working with. SInce I have no experience with this hair.  I'm not sure if when I lighten I'll want to use an ashy color, or golden, or whatnot til i see how it lightens...  then maybe I'll do single process.

It has kinda a stong almost dandruff shampoo smell to it.  haven't washed it yet to see what happens.  It struck me as a pesticide smell when i first got the hair.  like they had poured some delousing solution over the hair and not washed it out particularly well.

You should be able to use permanant color you are thinking of demi and semi color that will just deposit but regular coloris mixed with the  peroxide  and lifts and deposits it is just what you want when your not going for blond.

Edit to ask you dose your fina hair smell funny. I just did the conditioning treatment that Amm told me to try and still smells!

Try that Clairol Kaleidocolor powder in the beige package. It will lighten dark hair up to 5 shades without processing it to death. It works great - lightens yet leaves the hair just as soft as before.

Okay I haven't done anything yet cause i"m lazy.  I figured after I found a process I liked I'd do small batches.  But I don't see how it could possibly be that hard to make a whole lot of bleach, put the hair in a bowl/bucket/you understand and the pour the bleach on in under 30 seconds.

Kalika - In my experience all lightening requires bleaching.  I can't put deposit color on it and expect it to lighten.  If you have another idea please let me know.

how are you gonna get bleach on it all in 5 minutes? let alone only leaving it to process that long ?

I am going to lighten my Fina hair one level.  Hopefully I'm not giong to lighten it 3 or 4 or 6.  But it should be good and stubborn and five minutes in bleach should be enough.  DOn't worry I'm not so crazy as to not do a strand test.

I'll post some pics when I'm done.
