It's mostly the heat. We all know heat speeds up chemical reactions- like sitting under the dryer when getting color or bleach. Well, hot-tub water is really damn hot, which speeds up the damage that the chlorine (or bromine?) does. So the hot chemical water dried out her hair. She shoulda tried to keep it out of the water. And if not that, rinsing it out, using swimmer's shampoo, and lots of conditioner right afterwards would have been good.

thanks for the input,  I'm with you.  It had to be overprocessing or not enough rinsing,  or both.  She was cool about it and didn't blame her girl  (I would Have!!!).   Now I'm trying to figure out if I need to know something about hot tubs and whatnot.

 Anyway, any new thoughts are appreciated.  peace.

Wow is that scary!! I asume she has had Highlights before and she has been in the hot tub before.I bet they over proccesed her . I thought that bromine was gentler than chorline. I have a lot of clients that have pools and use bromine and no dreads. Poor girl : (

   I did a consult today.  I told the girl about this site, so if she reads about herself I hope she does not mind.

     She had grown her hair down to the small of her back.  By the by she was obviously a blonde as a child, and had that babyfine hair many blondies have.  Anyhow, she got highlights, went home, put her hair in a ponytail and got in her hot tub with her husband.

    So anyway, her hair melted into one big dreadlock (those were her words).  She said her hair had some reaction with the bromine in the tub????  And she had to have it cut off super duper short.

     This is so outside any knowledge of mine.  I can only think A)  the stylist didn't rinse out all the bleach properly or perhaps B) they overprocessed her hair so much that contact with any chemical was going to turn it into bubblegum.

    I am so flummoxed.  I have no hot tub knowledge. It occurse to me that they f*&ked up her hair at the salon and blamed it on the tub, but who knows?  Any suggestions?
