Tell us exactly what it looks like,  but I'd check out wigmaking sites,  they use Mangles all the time in old school (opera, theater) wigmaking.

i thought the idea was that you pull a few strand of each out and it holds the rest in place?

either that or you put the 3 colours on top of each other and pull them out that way?
