Hi Tiramisu2c aka Christine,
I can fully relate to your hair woes...and the hairdresser from hell! You have to remember that it could have been far far worse! I'am growing back from a G.I. Jane. I made it through that and your going to make it through this also. You may want to try useing hair oils (jojoba or Weleda rosemary) they help to control thick wavy hair...or you may also want to try working with your curls instead of against them. Try looking for short hair styles on the net. Try to find the good in the bad...your hair color is just beautiful!!!! You have that going for you as well as a pretty face. Lastly, I'am sure this Valerie will eventually get fired. With an attitude like her's...it dosen't take much to do the math.

Hey everyone!
Thanks so much for the continuing support! It means so much!
I'm feeling a little better. It still looks like poo, but what
can I do? (Haha, I'm a poet and I didn't even know it )
I stopped in today at the hair salon on my way to work. The usual
receptionist, nor Valerie were there, but I spoke to the woman who was
sitting there. She was nice and understanding, and she gave me a
card for a blow out for free. I asked her if people in my
situation normally get their money back, and she said she'd contact the
owner or something and call me back.
I didn't want to storm in there and be like, "YOUR HAIRDRESSER RUINED
MY HAIR!" Because honestly, it wasn't the receptionist's fault,
and yelling about it isn't going to do anything. I also didn't
want to be like, "I WANT MY MONEY BACK!" Even though I could
definitely use the extra $30, I dont understand their whole
policy. Maybe they'll refund the cut and not the blow-out??
Well, the money isn't really the important part to me. The
important part was them knowing that this girl Valerie should go back
to cosmetology school...or at least give a crap about what her
customers ask for. I don't want this to happen to someone
else.
Anyway, that's all guys for now.
Thanks so much!!!
Love, Christine

Oh Christine, I'm so sorry I know how you feel, I cry over my
hair too if something happens to it. You are still beautiful
regardless and it *does* grow back. I was thinking perhaps you could go
somewhere else and just get them to even it out for now? That
might make you feel better. Big hugs to you

I think you should go back and ask for the money back as she did not
listen to you're requests and just cut it the way SHE wanted to.
I hate that
Perhaps if you go and explain what happened to the manager you will spare someone else the pain you just went through...

Oh Christine, Christine. Oh, darn that Valerie. Like the PPs, I do think you'll be seeing some real strides by late this winter. I am so very, very sorry this happened to you. I think you're still lovely but I know exactly how you feel. I don't feel sorry for how you look (just adorable) but for how you feel. I think we've all been there at one time or another.

What a horrible experience. She doesnt sound like someone who knows alot about hair.Sounds like she tried to give you a cookie cutter haircut.I know alot of stylists give the bob you just described.Longer in the front and a graduated back. It works well on most fine straight hair. But It seems pretty obvious to me its not going to work with your thick curly hair. Its sad that it seems most stylists just do what they want.On a happier note, your not far from the cute shoulder length style you had before.

Thanks so much Vicky and Nikki!
As each day goes by, I am feeling better. It isn't as though I
have found more things to do with my hair, but I just keep it in the
best pony I can manage, and at the end of the day when I take it out
for a bit to massage my head, I either feel better or worse, depending
on my mood, lol.
The major problem I'm having with it is that it really isn't even a
style at all! It seems as though she cut the underlayers MAJORLY
short and she left the front longer because that is the point when I
asked her what she was doing. She was just about to cut the front
of my hair, when I asked her to stop, and she said, "Look, it's below
your chin like you asked..." I was like, "That's because you haven't
cut it yet!" And the back is at least an inch shorter than the
front. (When I said I wanted it longer than chin-length, it was
because when I was trying to explain that I just wanted a trim of an
inch or so, she said, "So, chin-length?" I said, "No, not that
short.") Plus, she decided to thin it to death, so the front is
very straggly-looking at the ends.
I think I may go in today to try and get my money back...it might make me feel a little better.
But anyway, I am using Garnier Fructis Shampoo and Conditioner Long
& Strong to help my hair stay nice in the growing out
process. (Preventing breakage and splits - I think cones work
best in my hair) So yes, I am feeling better today than I did on
Saturday, and I just keep thinking while I live my daily life my hair
is actually growing even though I may not be able to see it.
The thing that is most difficult is that my hair is wavy/curly, so the
more it grows, the more it springs back into a wave/curl, so I don't
really get to see all of the length.
But, once Christmas time rolls around, and I reach my short-term goal,
I think I am going to treat myself to a trim and a blow-out, but I'll
need to think of where I'll go. One of my friends just got a job
in a salon in NYC, maybe I'll ask her (She's cut my hair before for
me).
Thank you all for your concern! It has really helped me! I feel better and better everyday! Thanks! Love, Christine

Oh, poor you!! Have been in the same situation. Normally hair tends to grow on average at a rate of half an inch per month. Although some peoples hair will grow faster and slower than this. On average then, you are likely to have grown your hair by 2.5 inches by Christmas.
I would take vitamins for strenthening your hair, and by massaging the roots of your hair, it is know to increase the rate of the growth of hair. I have never tried it, but some say it works!!
I hope you aren't feeling too down, your hair looks in great shape, and it has some shine on it.
Just try to stay positive, and remember it will grow back!! Try not to think about it as much, I know it's hard but it will work!!

I just think they make a bigger mess of things than they were from the beginning.
Everytime i have gone to the hairdressers I have had bsl and just
wanted a trim. I always end up with sholder leanth hair with lots of
layers (you know anistons hair in the begining of friends)
My hair is so thick that they think they are doing me a favour.
I always leave angry and promise my self never to go to the hairdressers again.

I have a salon horror story too. 4 years ago when my husband and I were getting married I decided to get my hair cut, dyed and highlighted in a salon. ( I always dyed and highlighted my hair myself) So anyway 2 weeks before my wedding I went to a lady that does my bestfriends hair. I was going for a light auburn with highlights. She decided to put some bright pink intensifier (sp) in it. My husband walked into the salon while I had this pink goop on my head so I teased him telling him I was dying it pink for the wedding. WELL when she was rinsing my hair I heard her gasp and said don't worry I can fix this......YUP I had bright PINK hair. She had to dye it a darker brown and said come back next week and she would do the highlights. That weekend I was meeting my husbands family for the first time, and the pink started comming through. I called her in a panic and she did the dye AGAIN and the highlights. It was ok for the wedding, not the color I wanted but not pink either. And I have never had a salon dye my hair again!
Oh and she blamed the mess up on me dying my hair too much!

Ouch.
You have my sympathy, Christine. That chopper deserves a thunk
on the head (and to have their license yanked). I honestly don't
know how stylists stay in business when they willfully disregard the
stated wishes of their clients. Hang in there, it'll get better every day!

Two silver linings, Christine: The cut
cannot detract from your pretty face, and you were not far along in
your growing process. One woman I know had her hip length locks reduced
to her shoulder blades after requesting a 2" trim! And the ends were 4"
of sloppy layers to boot! Small consolation that *she* did not pay. She
was literally sick over it.
Yes, IMO your hacker stinks and should be fired. Sometimes it doesn't
pay to be nice. My wife has twice encountered unethical scissor
weilders who butchered her. Never again; Only I trim it now, and rarely
at that.
Two things, Christine, if you'll indulge me. It's hard for some people,
even those on long hair boards, to believe that a professional stylist
could refuse to follow simple instructions, and instead proceed to hack
away arrogantly. It only takes one of these creeps to ruin years of
toil, and there are some everywhere. Second, I'm a believer that when
one is growing out, hair only needs infrequent trimmings. DW now has
incredibly lovely hip-length hair, despite only two trims since 2001.
It's your preference, but even honest *small* mistakes can remove most
or all of new growth if trims occur often.
Take heart, since you are in control now, and never need repeat this
"mistake". OK, I'll admit, a big part of me still hopes you go back to
tell her off. Hopefully, she'll quit the trade, or at least never take
liberties on another client! Cordially, Bob

Grace912: Thank you! My hair color is actually natural. The sun does something funky to it I think, lol. I really hope you're right that my hair will be back to my shoulders by Christmas. I don't want to trim it or anything before then, but I am very afraid that with her thinning process (as she did so, I asked her not to, and she replied, "I have to - your ends have a lot of weight to them, and if I don't it'll look like a bell" - IMO IT STILL VERY CLOSELY RESEMBLES A BELL, but whatever...), it will look like crap at the ends as it does now. Like if I let it grow out as it is, I can't even flat-iron it, ever, because I've tried, and the ends are very uneven. Thank you very much though for your support!
Viktoria: Unfortunately, I did pay $28 for the haircut - then tipped the washer $2, and tipped my butcher $5. I know, i know....I can't help it. I'm a college student by day, and a waitress by night, so I am an obscene tipper. She knew I was very unhappy with the cut as I told her so immediately and basically started hyperventilating in the chair, but she kept trying to make it better and said things (and I quote) like, "Oh, it looks so good...it almost makes me want to cut mine back to that length!" (She is saying this to me with bra-strap length hair) Upon hearing this, I thought to myself (So loudly I thought she may hear) "Hand me the scissors, I'll do it for you." She also said, "Oh, don't worry, I can tell your hair grows fast."
What really upsets me, is that I think she may have sincerely thought it looked good. I don't know...but it honestly looks terrible. And when I get upset, it's not that I am upset about just how it looks, but hoenstly, it is because I am so angry that she could do this to someone. I mean, even if it was what I asked for, it was a terrible cut. Also, it's not like she didn't see the texture of my hair before she cut it. It was CURLY. When it's wet, it's curly. And she proceeded to chop it off to ear length (hopefully with the knowledge of shrinkage). I am 20 years old, and I don't enjoy blowing out my thicker than thick hair everyday, and even so it was hideous. Anyway, once I cried my way home, I told my mom all about it, and I called the salon immediately thereafter. (She said, "they're so lucky it was you who called and not me" - lol, I love my mom). The receptionist is VERY nice. I speak to her all the time, and she was sincere in her apology even though it wasn't her who cut my hair. She told me I could come in for free blowouts and styling tips to help with the growing out process, but I believe I may have acquired a salon-o-phobia. I may go and ask for my money back...I'm not sure yet. Thank you as well for your support!
Vicky: I do wish I knew this woman was scissor-happy. My mom thinks that she may have just had what she thought was a better idea of how to do my hair...I don't know, but I do wish she played Haircutter Barbie with her own hair. It is SO true that you don't know what you have until it's gone...I AM MISSING MY CURLS SOOO MUCH! I don't even have the option of wearing my hair down because it's uncomfortable for me. But, enough whining...I'll get over it. Thank you!
Claude: I agree. My haircut looks as if I picked up a pair of garden shears and cut my own hair...or that my two year old cousin did it. I don't know what she was thinking. I can't believe she let me out of the chair looking like this either, but honestly, I could not wait to get out anyway. I was NOT happy, but I didn't want to cry (believe it or not) because I didn't want her to feel bad. I put myself in her shoes and I thought, "If I were cutting someone's hair and they flipped out, I'd be mortified." On the other hand, I would have listened to what my customer said, but who knows. She did look somewhat like her puppy just died or something.
I agree with you about Pantene. I have heard many not-so-good things about it. I think I will stick to Matrix. (I've tried Garnier but the fruity smell makes me a little nauseus.)
How far upstate are you? I currently live in Nassau County on Long Island. Not TOO far. LOL, with my newly acquired fear of salons I may be squeamish to go back to one. However, I do intend on staying completely away from scissors until my hair touches my shoulders.
Thank you ALL for your support. I can't tell you how much it means. I feel 10x better than I did on Saturday, and a lot of it is owed to you. I will be doing the progress pics probably every month as I think I will need it. Honestly, this board was a dream come true...it has helped tremendously!
Thank you all so much! If there is anything I can do for any of you, please let me know as I would love to pay you all back.
I like you guys all very very much. You are all so sweet and supportive. Sorry for the NOVEL of a post, but I wanted to address all of you.
Now, a little about myself!
I'm 20, I live on Long Island in NY, I am going into my 3rd year of College (Long Island University C.W. Post), I'm a Broadcasting Major with a concentration in Radio, I love music, and my back-up plan for if a career in radio fell through has always been cosmetology school! lol, Thanks all for reading!
LOVE,
Christine
PS - My short-term hair goal is Shoulder-Length. (Hopefully by this Christmas). My long-term one is bra-strap length!

Holy Crap Christine! I feel sorry for you and if I was around I'd give you a hug too. All I can tell ya is it will grow back.
Looking at that cut it's hard to believe a professional stylist cut that. To me the back looks uneven with the hair underneat in the nape area sticking out from the perimiter of the haircut. I can't believe someone would let you up outta the chair with your hair looking like that. Maybe it's because they thinned it too much...I dunno. Personally I hate the thinning shears and rarely if ever use em unless a client insists then I go in lightly with a few snips.
I love the length of your hair longer in the picture that you posted.
You either had a catty hairstylist or a bad hairstylist who didn't listen to what you wanted done to your hair. This is absolutely awful I feel for ya. I've had many a Jacked Up haircuts by stylists who didn't listen....so now I'm in the business to banish JACKED UP Haircuts and have every client leave my chair happy with their hairstyle they desired.
As for using Pantene on your hair I don't recommend their whole product line is sub-par. Try the Garnier Fructis line of products. It's much more gentle on hair and it's reasonably priced.
If your in the Upstate, NY area and your looking for a trim or great haircut....PM me. I know the difference between 1/2" and 4" or 5" of hair. I'm slowly bulding my clientel.
G'luck in finding a stylist who will listen to your instructions next time you visit a salon.

Good lord, what an experience! I hope you didn´t pay her. If you did, or even if you didn´t, you should write a letter to whoever owns that salon. Might save others from getting the same treatment.
I agree with Anaïs and Grace, you´ll have bounced back by Christmas. And your hair looks lovely, although I don´t understand why this thinning out process is supposed to be necessary , what´s more attractive than a thick, shiny (and somewhat wavy, no?) head of hair? And do I wish I had that color!
I hope you feel better!
The more you complain, the longer God lets you live.

I'm so sorry to hear that this person didn't listen to your wishes;
while it really doesn't look bad, I completely get where you're
uncomfortable not being able to wear it up as you'd like. I agree with
AnaisSatin on how long it will take; it'll be down to your shoulders
again by the end of the year. I've got to say, your color is wonderful;
is that natural?
Monica: Isn't there any way that you could look at this as flattering? I mean, she's doing this to be more like you. Rachel: Well, then, couldn't she have just copied my haircut?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the reason my hair looks so straggly
at the ends is because she proceeded to use the thinning shears even
after I asked her not to. My hair is very thick.

Thank you SO much Anais! Lucky for me, my hair is very
healthy. You really think that by Christmas time I'll have
shoulder-length again? LOL, I vowed to wear my hair in a pony
until it was longer. I think my short-term goal will be
Shoulder-Length, then my longer-term goal will be bra-strap length as
I've never allowed it to get that long, but I'd love to. You
can't tell in that picture, because I put it in a pony tail when it was
wet and it dried like that with those bumps, but my hair naturally is
deeply wavy, which when longer, turns into banana curls. I
haven't let them get that long in a long time.
Thanks for the hug, I know I can do it, it's just hard. I'm
trim-happy as I get bored very easily, but I can't wait for longer hair
again. This has been a nightmare for me. Finally when I
start to love my curls, someone shears them off! LoL, thanks again!
Love,
Christine
PS - Perhaps the shine is from my shampoo/conditioner?
Yesterday I used Pantene Pro-V for Brunettes, but I'm an avid Matrix
Sleek-Look user. I just like to switch it up sometimes. I
recommend it to anyone with a little frizz! Well, off to work!!
From chin length to about shoulder length? I think you'll be there by Christmas of this year. It will be a nice present to yourself, and you'll be there before you know it. Meanwhile, your hair looks very very healthy. Just LOOK at that gorgeous shine!
Here's a (((hug))) for you. Welcome to our little huddle.
