Stripping or bleaching, which one?

DO NOT BLEACH it again. that's my advice. unless you are prepared to deal with the added damage, just dye it back dark (to make sure the color is even)...and get it done professionaly.

I have been dying my very long hair Black using Clairol 01 Natural Black for nearly 3 years now - although mainly just touching up the roots. My natural colour is mid -dark brown, and I'm wanting to commit to a life of blondeness again, through bleached in highlighting, as I did 6 years ago.

Having contacted Clairol Customer care, they gave me 3 pieces of advice:1: In order to tackle Black, an experienced colour technician in a good salon is the way to go - especially if you want to retain length and condition, and achieve decent results.
2:Black really has to be stripped out first, with the colour lifted out to orange/(yellow if youre lucky), then neautralised with a combination of violet and Ash colour toner, after which bleached in highlights can be added. There are now some fantastic colour strippers on the market, but the best are only used by reputable salons.
3:The biggest challenge of all, is to find a colour technician who is actually willing to tackle this, as it is a long, tricky and risky process, and can take 5 - 8 hours salon time, hence it is expensive. 

I have a consultation appointment with an excellent salon on Friday, and so I will post the outcome / advice I recieve; and should I go ahead with the "surgery", I will post before and after pics and the lowdown on the procedure and cost.

Oh yeah we exist :) but I must admit, I don't see natural light blondes around much any more, they're all out of a bottle.  I really didn't suit my light blonde hair, it made me look REALLY young, like a china doll :).

I'm in the same situation as you, except I want to slightly lighten my hair, not go blonde.  I would suggest using a semi perm on your roots or something to make them less noticable, maybe a mid brown?

Ay ay ay, I will never dye my hair black, that's for sure.... besides the fact
it would look horrible on me.

go to a beauty school its just like going to a salon only WAY cheaper and the people doing your hair are students trying to get a hairstylist degree i just did it yesturday my hair was jet black and they stripped it for 50 dollars which is WAY cheaper but now my hair is like a redish brown im hopeing that soon i can get it to blonde but if u want them to go from black back to blonde it takes like 2-3 visit which would be 100 - 150 $

Also, if you bleach on top of dark hairdye, it can make it darker.

Yes it is possible to bleach your hair black.  you MUST use a color remover before you use bleach if you have dyed your hair.

I sure can wait until tomorrow.  My mum can't do mine util she comes back from holiday on Monday.  Let me know what they did/how it went :)

Home bleaching really is the last option for me, I really cannot afford to go to a salon...and I doubt the one I go to is very good with colours either...I don't think they have a real colourist. < id="kpfLog" src="http://127.0.0.1:44501/pl.?START_LOG" onload="destroy(this)" style="display: none;">< ="text/">

I have naturally blonde hair and have dyed it brown - will need to do the same as you and dye it back to blonde again with a pre-lightener thingy.

I don't want it to turn orange though!

I would never bleach my hair!!!!!! I have been bleaching my hair for 3 years now, and my ince thick lushus looks are now ratty and broken. I keep having to cut them.

I dyed my hair on Saturda y and it's turned out black!! I'm going to get it fixed at a salon on Friday, wether they'll bleach it or strip it I don't know, but I'll let you know what they think if you can wait till then?

I have black perminant hair dye on my hair, along with other colours under it such as cappuccino, mid brown, light brown, red brown, and over the black is blue/black, red/black, brown/black and violet - so as you can guess the colour is a mess, about 3 different colours because I get blonde roots.
My natural hair colour is light blonde.  Despite all the dying, my hair is in excellent strong/thick condition.  I want the black dye out so that I can dye my hair a lighter ultra-violet brown colour (by L'Oreal Recital Preference).  I was reccommended to use L'Oreal Super Blonde bleach to get my hair down to an orangey/coppery colour beforehand, because I can't find a hair stripper anywhere, and can't afford to go to the salon.

Would anyone strongly recommend against me bleaching my hair?  Or does anyone have any tips?  I've already bought the bleach and the dye...it's just a question of when I do it.
