You want to use either weaving thread (d y'all have a Sally Beauty
Supply nearby) or upholstery thread. You can get upholstery
thread at a sewing shop. The big thing is you want something
strong.

Awesome, metalgirl! Thanks for the info! I look forward to the pics!
totally off topic, but I have to tell you that Alaska IS awesome! especially
if you like the outdoors! Hubby and I live right up next to the mountains
at the edge of the city, and it is so cool to take a four minute drive, take
to the hiking trail and be way up there with a view over the city in 20
minutes. So unbelievable. I'd never been in an alpine meadow before
moving here, and it's an experience I highly recommend! (sometimes I feel I should work for the tourism commitee for our city...
I'm always waving pompoms for Anchorage) Lived here 6 years, but the
only bummer is that it's kinda hard with both our families living in WA
state... we miss 'em.
I have emailed several of the Hair Police affiliates, and they are charing anywhere from $200-$450.
Rae's tutorial is good, except it doesn't show how to easily and neatly make the knots. I struggled with this for a while until Charlene showed me the 'secret' on how to knot this thing several times and still keep a firm hold of the braid.
I wish I could explain it to you, but it's really a visual. I'll try to have someone take a picture of my hand position/ movement and post it.
Hooray! I live in Anchorage, Alaska (lack of salons here) and asked my
super talented stylist if she would do my extensions via pinchbraiding,
and though she said she'd never done extensions, she would love to learn
how! Yes! She does the models' hairstyles for Alaska Bride magazine,
and does everything from super elegant beauty pageant stuff to cool
punk styles and colors, and I love her to pieces. I'm very excited.
I sent her Rae's Pinchbraids Tutorial, but was wondering if any of you with
experience had any other tidbits of useful info that I could pass along to
her. (She's going to take a week while I'm out of town to study the
tutorial, practice it and see if she can even say yes to doing it on me) Any
tools or doodads we might need, or any additional techniques not
mentioned in the tutorial? What is that thread used in the tutorial to tie
off the braids? Where do I get it? I'm going to order Plastikhaar in the
next few days, and I'll bring that to the salon, though we wouldn't do the
actual install for maybe a month (gotta let the red in my hair fade out).
I'm going to have 3 colors.
Any info you have is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Oh, and she didn't even know what to charge for this.... how much did
you pay for your pinchbraid install?
